The 2023 Volvo S90 is the Swedish luxury brand’s flagship sedan. It boasts muscular styling and a world-class interior. The conventional sedan layout provides comfortable, refined seating, and the trunk offers a generous 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space. The S90 is available either as a mild hybrid or with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Volvo calls the PHEV variant the S90 Recharge.

For 2023, the S90 lineup's trim options have been simplified down to the Plus and the Ultimate trims. The standard Plus trim is available only for the mild hybrid S90. It comes very well equipped and includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic moonroof, and illuminated door sill signage. It also comes equipped with leather upholstery, quad-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, power rear window curtains, and a high-performance audio system.

Moving up to the Ultimate trim, the only option for the S90 PHEV, adds genuine Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and a Harmon Kardon premium stereo system. The Ultimate also comes with front passenger’s seat memory, power side bolsters, power seat cushion extenders, and upgraded 20-inch alloy wheels.

Both trims come equipped with a Google-based touchscreen infotainment system. It is arranged in a portrait layout and includes Apple CarPlay.

There is one powertrain offered in the 2023 Volvo S90: a 2.0-liter twin-charged (both turbocharged and supercharged) four-cylinder engine in a hybrid configuration. This system puts out a combined 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard all-wheel drive (AWD). This powertrain returns fuel economy of 23 mpg city, 32 highway, and 26 combined. The S90 Recharge, meanwhile, has a pure electric range of up to 38 miles. The Volvo S90 requires premium fuel.

Standard driver-assistance features for the 2023 Volvo S90 and S90 Recharge include forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The S90 also comes equipped with Pilot Assist, which allows the vehicle to stay centered in a traffic lane and maintain a steady following distance from the vehicle in front of it. The S90 is available with a surround-view parking camera, a head-up display, and park assist for parallel and perpendicular parking spots.

Base MSRP for the 2023 Volvo S90 is $58,295 for the Plus trim. The Ultimate trim starts at $63,845. The Volvo S90 is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid components are backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
