How much does the 2023 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 2.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 7,423 listings available, which gives you a healthy pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.27/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, ruggedness, and off-road capability, and many also point to its strong resale value and sturdy build. The Tacoma’s ideal size and versatile truck layout make it appealing if you want something smaller than a full-size pickup but still capable for commuting, weekend projects, and trail use.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin can feel tight, and the truck’s technology and comfort are not as modern as some rivals. That makes it a better fit if you value durability and character more than polish and refinement.

Good and great deals account for 35.1% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners saying they trust it for long-term use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its hard-earned reputation for bullet-proof reliability and its sturdy build, which reinforces the sense that this is a truck you can count on.

Toyota’s ownership appeal is further supported by the Tacoma’s reputation for durability and its practical, proven mechanical setup. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright fragility and more about whether prior use, mileage, and maintenance history have worn down a truck that may already be showing its age.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off-road or for towing. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and signs of hard use, since this model’s appeal often comes from capability rather than luxury.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from SR to SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition. Base SR trims are the sparest, while higher trims add more comfort and capability; the TRD Pro stands out with underbody skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, a TRD sport exhaust, and a unique grille.
• Powertrain: Lower trims use a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 delivers 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is the better choice if you want stronger performance and more satisfying everyday driving.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera, but you won’t find lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: Base SR trims use a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM are included, and the interface is straightforward even if it feels dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is rated at 20 mpg city, 23 highway, and 21 combined with rear-wheel drive, or 19/22/20 with four-wheel drive. The V6 returns 19/24/21 with rear-wheel drive, 18/22/20 with four-wheel drive, and manual-transmission models get 17/21/18.

Which 2023 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the most basic Tacoma, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and don’t mind a spartan cabin. It’s the trim where the truck’s work-first personality is most obvious.
• SR5: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road-focused trims. If you want a balanced Tacoma, start here.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more dressed-up Tacoma with a sportier feel and more visual presence than the lower trims.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the trim to target if trail use matters most, since it leans into the Tacoma’s core off-road strengths.
• TRD Pro: This is the most capable and most distinctive version, with underbody skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, and a TRD sport exhaust. It suits you best if off-road performance is the priority and price is less of a concern.
• Trail Special Edition: This is for buyers who want a more specialized, adventure-oriented Tacoma with a distinct personality.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, but the suite does not include lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,423 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,359, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $36,147 sits slightly below last year's $36,952.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward from where it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, the Tacoma’s strong reputation and broad shopper appeal should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Because the truck is still widely sought after, condition and trim choice will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. A clean, well-maintained Tacoma should remain easier to move than a rough one with visible wear or a questionable history.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma was not awarded a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact tests and lower marks in frontal crash and rollover tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can also add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera.

The main caveat is that the Tacoma does not include lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking, so its driver-assistance suite is less comprehensive than what you’ll find in some newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends legendary reliability with strong off-road capability and a familiar, proven truck formula.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $33,041, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $36,147 average.
• It remains a strong smaller-truck choice for commuting and weekend adventures.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $38,253, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $36,147 average.
• It brings a ground-up redesign and a new mechanical foundation.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Tacoma formula and a broad used-market selection, the 2023 is the safer all-around pick. If price matters most, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newest redesign, look to the 2024 instead.
