overall

Summary
With 351 currently listed for sale near Nashville, TN and an average price of $29,658, 42.5% of 2023 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota RAV4 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
100.0% of 2023 RAV4 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a well-rounded compact crossover SUV that has earned a reputation as a bestseller for Toyota and in the United States. It is aimed at buyers who want a solid, dependable family-friendly vehicle rather than something especially exciting, and that broad appeal is a big part of its identity.
For 2023, Toyota kept the RAV4’s well-reviewed styling while updating the infotainment system, which had been a frequent complaint. That combination of familiar design and a fresher interface helps the RAV4 feel current without changing its basic formula. It also offers multiple powertrain options, giving shoppers some flexibility in how they want to configure it.
The tradeoffs are familiar ones. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is described as having fairly pedestrian performance and not being as spacious as some competitors. Even so, owners often praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, spacious interior, reliable performance, and value for money, which helps explain why it remains such a popular choice.

I have a 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE. My wife and I love this car. It drives/handles well and gets good gas mileage. The drivers seat is electric so adjusting the seat to fit whoever is going to drive the car is easy. It also has a lane violation warning signal option that alerts the driver when the car crosses the side or middle road lanes.

How much does the 2023 Toyota RAV4 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,361 |
| Year-Round Low | $27,910 |
| Year-Round High | $30,361 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,460 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +3.06% |
Prices are up 3.06% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 6,524 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, and spacious interior. They also highlight its reliable performance and value for money, which fits the RAV4’s role as a solid, dependable family-friendly crossover rather than an especially exciting one.
The trade-offs are familiar: performance is fairly pedestrian, and it is not as spacious as some competitors. Even so, the RAV4’s broad appeal and practical focus make it a strong fit if you want a well-rounded compact SUV with everyday usability.
Good and great deals account for 35.6% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to reliable performance, and owners also describe the RAV4 as dependable and good for long-term use. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing it as a practical SUV that avoids major black marks while delivering the kind of ownership experience many shoppers want from a mainstream crossover.
Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of no-cost maintenance, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about dramatic mechanical trouble and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any listing you like, because accident-free status is a starting point, not a guarantee. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the vehicle has higher mileage, uneven tire wear, or signs of heavy use. Focus on overall condition, since the RAV4’s value proposition depends heavily on finding one that still feels clean, well-kept, and mechanically sound.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE and XLE use fabric seats, while XLE Premium upgrades to synthetic leather upholstery. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, including heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats with driver memory, and the base trim misses dual-zone climate control.
- Powertrain: The gas model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard, while AWD is available on any trim and standard on Adventure and TRD Off-Road.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
- Infotainment: An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, while Limited and TRD Off-Road get a 10.5-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base LE gets 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined with FWD; AWD lowers highway mileage to 34 while keeping the combined figure the same. The Adventure trim is rated at 25 city, 33 highway, and 28 combined.
Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point and the value play if you want the lowest starting price and the core RAV4 formula. It gives you the standard infotainment setup, the standard safety suite, and the best fuel economy figures in the lineup.
- XLE: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of comfort and value. It adds a more complete everyday experience than the LE, including the safety-package upgrade that brings blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- XLE Premium: This is the step up if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping all the way to the top end. It adds synthetic leather upholstery and moves the RAV4 closer to a more premium feel.
- Adventure: This trim is for shoppers who want the more rugged look and standard AWD. It adds the more aggressive styling treatment, but the review makes clear that it is more of a style statement than a true off-road specialist.
- TRD Off-Road: This is the most capability-focused trim in the gas lineup, with standard AWD, all-terrain tires, and a TRD-tuned suspension. It is the one to choose if you want the most distinct chassis and tire setup.
- Limited: This is the upscale choice, with the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen and the most premium-feeling equipment in the lineup. If you want the most polished RAV4 experience, this is the trim to consider.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,524 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.06% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,910, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $30,361 sits slightly above last year's $29,460.
That upward move suggests the RAV4 continues to hold buyer interest well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. A model year with rising prices usually benefits from steady demand, especially when shoppers keep valuing the same practical strengths over time.
The RAV4’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and reputation for dependable ownership all help support resale strength. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you should be in a better position when it is time to trade or sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 safe?
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 2023 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, and it includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
The main caveat is that the base trim does not include blind-spot monitoring as standard, so you should confirm the equipment list on any lower-trim used example.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.06% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Toyota updated the infotainment system and kept the well-reviewed styling.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $27,879, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $30,361 average.
- It offers a roomy, flexible interior and efficient powertrains.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $31,162, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $30,361 average.
- It broadens the lineup with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid choices.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated tech, strong safety, and broad market availability, the 2023 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 can save you money while keeping much of the same core appeal. If you want to spend more for a newer model-year option, the 2024 is worth a look, but the 2023 remains the sweet spot for many used buyers.
