CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota RAV4
overall

Summary
With 6,499 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,337, 36.0% of 2023 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota RAV4 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
86.8% of 2023 RAV4 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a well-rounded compact crossover SUV that has earned a reputation as a bestseller for Toyota and in the United States. It is aimed at buyers who want a solid, dependable family-friendly vehicle rather than something especially exciting, and that broad appeal is a big part of its identity.
For 2023, Toyota kept the RAV4’s well-reviewed styling while updating the infotainment system, which had been a frequent complaint. That combination of familiar design and a fresher interface helps the RAV4 feel current without changing its basic formula. It also offers multiple powertrain options, giving shoppers some flexibility in how they want to configure it.
The tradeoffs are familiar ones. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is described as having fairly pedestrian performance and not being as spacious as some competitors. Even so, owners often praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, spacious interior, reliable performance, and value for money, which helps explain why it remains such a popular choice.

I have a 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE. My wife and I love this car. It drives/handles well and gets good gas mileage. The drivers seat is electric so adjusting the seat to fit whoever is going to drive the car is easy. It also has a lane violation warning signal option that alerts the driver when the car crosses the side or middle road lanes.

How much does the 2023 Toyota RAV4 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,330 |
| Year-Round Low | $27,905 |
| Year-Round High | $30,331 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,395 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +3.18% |
Prices are up 3.18% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 6,515 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, and spacious interior. They also highlight its reliable performance and value for money, which fits the RAV4’s role as a practical family-friendly SUV rather than an especially exciting one.
The trade-offs are familiar: performance is fairly pedestrian, and some shoppers find it underpowered compared with rivals. Even so, the RAV4’s broad appeal and everyday usefulness make it easy to understand why it remains a popular choice.
Good and great deals account for 36.6% of listings, which is a healthy share of market opportunities.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers repeatedly describe it as reliable and dependable, with many noting that it feels like a vehicle you can count on over the long term. The expert review also emphasizes its practical, no-drama character and its reputation for being a solid, dependable choice.
Toyota’s ownership perks help too: the RAV4 includes two years or 25,000 miles of no-cost maintenance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about headline reliability and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not guarantee a clean individual vehicle. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim you want.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from the sub-$30K LE to the Limited, with Adventure and TRD Off-Road positioned as the more rugged-looking choices. Base-trim shoppers should note that dual-zone climate control is not standard there, and the LE uses fabric seats.
- Powertrain: The gas model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard on most trims, while Adventure and TRD Off-Road come standard with AWD.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, including lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
- Infotainment: An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, while Limited and TRD Off-Road get a 10.5-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base LE gets 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined with FWD; AWD lowers highway mileage to 34 while combined stays at 30. The Adventure trim is rated at 25 city, 33 highway, and 28 combined.
Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core RAV4 formula. It gets the standard safety suite, the new infotainment system, and the strongest fuel economy figures in the lineup.
- XLE: This is the best-value step up for many shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience while keeping the RAV4’s practical character intact. It also brings blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as standard.
- XLE Premium: This trim is the right move if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It upgrades to synthetic leather upholstery and adds a more premium feel.
- Adventure: This is for you if you want the more rugged styling and standard AWD. It adds a more aggressive look, but the review makes clear it is more about appearance than true off-road ability.
- TRD Off-Road: This is the most capability-focused trim in the gas lineup, with AWD, all-terrain tires, and a TRD-tuned suspension. It also gets the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen.
- Limited: This is the upscale choice, with the 10.5-inch touchscreen standard and the most premium-feeling equipment in the range. It suits you best if comfort and features matter more than price.
Safety-package note: blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,515 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.18% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 86.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,905, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $30,330 sits slightly above last year's $29,395.
That upward move suggests the RAV4 continues to hold buyer interest well in the used market. When prices rise year over year, sellers often benefit from stronger demand and less pressure to discount aggressively.
The model’s broad appeal helps too: shoppers keep coming back for its practicality, efficiency, and reputation for dependable ownership. That combination should support resale value over time, especially for clean, well-maintained examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 safe?
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 earned a 2023 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the base LE and standard starting with XLE.
The main caveat is that the RAV4’s IIHS performance included middling marks in updated side and moderate overlap front crash tests, even though it still earned the Top Safety Pick+ award.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.18% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings the updated infotainment system and standard wireless smartphone connectivity.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $27,801, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $30,330 average.
- It offers a roomy, flexible cabin with efficient powertrains.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $31,136, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $30,330 average.
- It broadens the lineup with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newest adjacent-year option and broader drivetrain choice, the 2024 is worth a look.
