How much does the 2023 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 1.32% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 500 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is a strong fit if you want a focused sports coupe and can live with the compromises that come with that mission. It earns 3.88/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts.

The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the GR86 for its fun driving experience, nimble handling, and affordability. The expert review also points to blissful handling dynamics, sharp acceleration, and straightforward controls, which line up with the car’s enthusiast-first personality.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment system is dated, the rear seat is small, and cabin noise is noticeable. That makes the GR86 best suited to you if you want a driver-focused coupe rather than a quiet all-purpose commuter.

With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is built around a simple, enthusiast-friendly formula, and owners describe it as fun, nimble, and affordable. The owner feedback also points to a car you can count on for an engaging driving experience, while the expert review emphasizes that the chassis and powertrain are tuned for confident, repeatable performance.

The performance notes reinforce that dependability angle: the low center of gravity from the boxer engine helps cornering ability, and the limited-slip differential is included regardless of gearbox choice. The cost-effectiveness notes also help the ownership case, since Toyota recommends premium fuel but the car still delivers strong value for the performance it offers.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about how hard the car may have been driven, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have seen enthusiastic use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of modification, and overall condition, especially if the car has been driven hard or tracked.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim keeps things simple with manually adjustable front seats, cloth seating, an 8-inch touchscreen, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Premium trim adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, and heated sport bucket seats with leather and Ultrasuede upholstery. If you want the best-value trim, the Premium adds the most meaningful upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, plus a standard six-speed manual or available six-speed automatic. A limited-slip differential is included regardless of transmission choice.
• Safety package: The automatic transmission version includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Infotainment: The GR86 uses a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus real buttons and dials for core functions. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to an eight-speaker unit.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic returns 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The manual returns 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the GR86’s core driving experience at the lowest price. You still get the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a digital instrument panel, and the same enthusiast-focused chassis and engine, so it covers the essentials well.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete version of the car. It adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, heated sport bucket seats, upgraded upholstery, and blind-spot monitoring.

The Premium trim also adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 500 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.32% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $29,440 sits slightly above last year's $29,055.

That modest increase suggests the GR86 is holding value reasonably well for a niche sports coupe. If you buy one in good condition, you may benefit from the model’s enthusiast appeal when it comes time to sell.

The year-over-year gain also hints that demand is still healthy relative to supply. For a future seller, that means a clean, well-kept example should remain easier to market than a more ordinary commuter car.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, but it has been evaluated by IIHS and earned top marks across the board, including a best score of Superior for its crash-prevention technology.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The automatic-transmission GR86 includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

One important caveat is that these advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the automatic transmission, so manual-transmission shoppers give up some safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.32% year-over-year.
• The 2023 keeps the GR86’s enthusiast-first formula intact, with sharp acceleration, blissful handling dynamics, and straightforward controls.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,868, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,440 average.
• It is the redesigned version of the Toyota 86 and emphasizes driving enjoyment above all else.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of performance, value, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter budget path, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
