CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Crown
overall

Summary
With 398 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,325, 33.2% of 2023 Toyota Crown listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Crown 3.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
87.7% of 2023 Toyota Crown listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Crown stands out by blending the feel of a large sedan with an elevated ride that gives it a unique middle ground between sedans and SUVs. Toyota also gives it a striking design, and the overall package is aimed at broad appeal rather than flash or excess. It is described as comfortable and fuel-efficient, which makes it attractive for buyers who want something distinctive without giving up everyday usability.
That said, the 2023 Toyota Crown is not positioned as a performance or luxury standout. Its performance is fairly pedestrian, the cargo area is limited, and the interior materials are said to feel cheap. For shoppers who value efficiency, comfort, and styling more than speed or upscale finishes, those tradeoffs may be easy to accept.

Vehicle rides and drives GREAT! Vehicle has many safety features that enhance one’s experience behind the wheel… Excellent value, and I would say it compares to luxury vehicle at a reasonable price point…

Reviewed a 2023 Toyota Crown on May 29, 2023
I did driving Crown Platinum test several times and each time was disappointed. Limited head and shoulder room in comparison with my Avalon Limited 2011. More stiff suspension. During the last test the Crown Platinum had a permanent warning about the hybrid system mulfunction and check engine. And it was on a brand new car that had only 2 miles on the odometer. The dealer was not honest and told me that is normal. Very disappointed.

| Year-Round Low | $32,934 |

There are 393 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown a good car?
With a 3.5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating, the 2023 Toyota Crown looks like a solid but selective choice rather than a universal crowd-pleaser. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.
It fits you best if you want a large-sedan feel with an elevated ride, distinctive styling, and everyday usability. The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials feel cheap. Even so, the overall package is aimed at broad appeal rather than flash or excess, so it makes sense if comfort and efficiency matter more to you than speed or upscale finishes.
Good and great deals account for 34.4% of listings, so there is some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown reliable?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is presented as a comfortable, fuel-efficient hybrid with a straightforward focus on everyday use. Its standard hybrid setup is described as the economical choice, and the cabin is tuned for quiet, relaxed driving.
The performance content also points to a calm, efficiency-first character rather than a stressed powertrain, with the base hybrid delivering strong fuel economy and the more powerful setup reserved for buyers who want extra pace. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that the standard hybrid is the better fit if you want to keep ownership costs in check.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a car built around efficiency and comfort can still become expensive if you end up chasing higher-trim features or a more complex powertrain than you actually need.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, confirm that the car has not had hidden bodywork, and prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin and electronics. Because the Crown’s appeal depends so much on comfort, efficiency, and condition, you’ll want to focus on how well the interior has held up and whether the car feels as refined as it should on the road.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Crown is a full-size sedan with seating for five, and the top Platinum trim adds a two-tone color option that gives it a more distinctive look. The cabin is modern, but the base trim’s mix of hard plastics and cushioned touch points means you should pay attention to material quality if you want a more upscale feel.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a hybrid electric motor/generator and on-demand all-wheel drive, while the Platinum can get the Hybrid Max powertrain with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a more powerful rear electric motor. The base hybrid is the efficiency play, while the Hybrid Max is the quicker option.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA software updates, and a wireless charging pad. Higher trims can upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, and the Platinum trim gets a standard digital key feature.
- Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates the base hybrid at 42 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 41 mpg combined, while the Hybrid Max is rated at 29 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Toyota Crown trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is offered in 3 trim levels: XLE, Limited, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- XLE: This is the value play if you want the Crown’s core formula at the lowest entry price. You still get the standard hybrid powertrain, AWD, the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full safety suite, so it covers the essentials without pushing you into higher-trim extras.
- Limited: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and price. It builds on the base setup with more premium content and is the better middle-ground choice for shoppers who want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Platinum: This is the most feature-rich version and the one to choose if you want the strongest performance and the most convenience tech. It can get the Hybrid Max powertrain, adds adaptive suspension, includes the semi-automated parallel parking system, and makes the digital key standard.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the Platinum adds the parking assist feature.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 393 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,934, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Crown's resale value?
The current average of $33,353 sits slightly below last year's $34,260.
That tells you the Crown has softened a bit in the market, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should expect a somewhat softer resale environment than a year ago, especially if the market continues to favor shoppers.
For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the car in strong condition. A clean history, good maintenance, and the right trim can help you protect value better than simply waiting for the market to rebound.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown safe?
The 2023 Toyota Crown’s crash test results from NHTSA and IIHS have not yet been published.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
The driver-assistance systems are generally well tuned for smooth driving, but the Proactive Driving Assist features can feel intrusive, and some of them may not be fully disableable in pre-production testing. If you’re sensitive to constant intervention, that’s worth checking during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Crown or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.65% compared with last year.
- The 2023 Crown’s unique middle-ground formula, elevated ride height, and strong fuel efficiency make it a good fit if you want something distinctive without giving up everyday usability.
The bottom line: If you want the Crown’s original formula and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2023 is a reasonable buy. If you’re mainly shopping on price, keep an eye out for the best deal rather than rushing, since the market gives you some room to compare listings before committing.
