Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner remains a strong choice for buyers seeking a traditional SUV experience, characterized by ruggedness and off-road capability. Despite being around for over a decade with minimal redesign, it still appeals thanks to a powerful 4.0-liter V6 engine producing 270 horsepower and an impressive ground clearance of nine inches. The model introduces modern conveniences such as standard blind-spot monitoring across all trims, while the 40th Anniversary Special Edition adds unique aesthetic flourishes that harken back to its heritage. Owners appreciate the 4Runner’s reliability and spacious interior, although it does face criticism for its fuel efficiency and handling characteristics on paved roads. Overall, the 2023 4Runner represents a blend of time-tested toughness and contemporary features, making it a versatile option for both adventurous outings and everyday use.
