## What’s New for the 2023 Subaru Ascent
For 2023, the Ascent receives a number of updates, including fresh styling, updated infotainment, and a new Onyx Edition.
## Design
Building off the same platform as before, the new Subaru Ascent features more aggressive front-end styling. Base and Premium trims receive 18-inch alloy wheels. All other trims feature 20-inch alloy wheels. The Onyx Edition features a black interior and dark exterior accents. The Limited trim adds fog lights.
## Powertrain
There is one powertrain setup across all versions of the Ascent: a 2.4-liter horizontally opposing four-cylinder engine. It makes 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through a continuously variable transmission to Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD. In the Base and Premium trims, fuel economy is listed at 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined. It comes equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Ascent also comes with four USB ports, with two up front and two in the second row. Available tech content includes wireless device charging, a pair of third-row USB ports, a Harman Kardon premium stereo, and Subaru’s Cabin Connect in-vehicle intercom system.

4.4 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Great features, great vehicle! I love the safety features of Subaru
Having recently test drove a brand new 2024 Ascent I will have to say it drives very nice. Power was decent, fuel mileage better than average and handles well. There are only two downsides of the vehicle. 1st the space is limited and it is very close knit for a family of more than four people. The 3rd row would work well for small children, but is pretty much useless for adults for long distances. When you review interior space comparisons, it is most closely resembles the space of a Toyota Highlander or Kia Sorrento. 2nd issue is the seats. I am only 5’9” tall and find that the second and third rows are narrow for an 8 seat vehicle and the driver and front passenger seats (although look comfortable) are hard, and thigh room front to back is overly short. The passenger seat in the Subaru crossovers also feels like it slants forward making you feel like you will slide out of the seat. I have driven the Subaru on a 11 hour drive and my hips were numb less than two hours into the trip and the front leg room side to side was two narrow for me to get into a comfortable position. Overall the vehicle drives nice, has a good sound system and the updated tech is intuitive and easy to use. I prefer replaceable buttons and switches for my HVAC controls and for my off road controls, but this is 2024 and I will assume the longevity of the new electronic controls will / should last as long as the drivetrain . I like Subarus and have had great luck in the past with them, but I hate their seats.
Great comfort vehicle that has the right amount of leg room for drivers and passengers …spacious as well…it’s an outback length with a forester height. It’s a great weekend warrior vehicle that fits a family of 4 or more .
Better safety features and lower price than the Telluride
Great car for the value. Roomy and easy to travel in.
