Summary

Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Nissan LEAF 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Nissan LEAF stands out as a practical, value-focused electric hatchback with a long history of making EV ownership approachable. In its second generation, the LEAF gained a larger battery that could deliver up to 150 miles of range and a more powerful drivetrain rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also brought in e-Pedal technology, which lets drivers rely heavily on regenerative braking for a one-pedal driving style, and its sharper bodywork gave the car a more modern look than the original LEAF.
For 2023, the LEAF’s appeal is tied to its mix of everyday usability and useful equipment. Nissan Safety Shield 360 was standard, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the model line had been trimmed to a base Leaf S and a Leaf SV Plus with a more powerful electric motor and a 62-kWh battery that provided 215 miles of range. The second-generation LEAF also offered vehicle-to-home technology through NissanConnect, allowing the battery to help power a home during an outage for up to two days. Its main drawbacks remain familiar ones: older LEAF models are known for limited range, and the car’s charging tech is dated compared with newer EVs.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

How much does the 2023 Nissan LEAF cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,704 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,090 |
| Year-Round High | $18,002 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,972 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.58% |
Prices have softened 1.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 406 listings available, which gives you a modest pool of options to compare.
Is the 2023 Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Nissan LEAF earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview frames it as a practical, value-focused electric hatchback that makes EV ownership approachable, with everyday usability, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Nissan Safety Shield 360. It also stands out for useful EV-specific features like e-Pedal driving and available vehicle-to-home capability, which can make it especially appealing if you want a simple commuter EV with extra utility. The market also looks supportive, with 47.3% of listings priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Nissan LEAF reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The overview presents the LEAF as a practical, value-focused EV with a straightforward feature set and a long history of making electric ownership approachable. Its appeal comes from everyday usability, standard safety equipment, and familiar EV hardware rather than complexity. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that older LEAFs are known for limited range and dated charging tech, so condition and battery health matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan LEAF?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings. Focus on overall condition, charging equipment, and how the car has been used, since EV ownership depends heavily on battery and charging health. If possible, verify that the car’s features and equipment match the listing and that everything works as expected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan LEAF?
Yes — this looks like a buyer-friendly market, with solid deal availability and a healthy number of listings to compare.
- Deal availability: 47.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 406 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,090, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Nissan LEAF's resale value?
The current average of $16,704 sits slightly below last year's $16,972.
That softer pricing suggests the LEAF is currently in a buyer-favorable position, which can make future resale planning more important if you expect to sell later. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside exposure when it comes time to trade in or list the car. The model’s practical reputation and straightforward ownership story can help support demand, especially among shoppers looking for an affordable EV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
