Why it stands out
The 2020 Nissan LEAF is a notable option in the growing electric vehicle market, appealing primarily due to its affordability and practicality. With an EPA-estimated range of up to 226 miles in the Plus model and an impressive acceleration, it's suitable for urban lifestyles and light commuting. Owners have highlighted the car's comfort, zippy driving experience, and low maintenance costs as key benefits. However, some review concerns point to a variable range and issues with the charging system on longer trips, which may be a drawback for potential buyers needing extended range. Notably, the LEAF comes equipped with numerous standard advanced safety features and has seen significant updates in design, making it feel contemporary compared to earlier models.

Ive owned LEAFS and plug in hybrids since 2013 and I love them. EVs have virtually no maintenance requirements beyond rotating the tires. No oil changes, no tune ups, no emissions inspections, never having to change brake pads by using regenerative braking. Its a much better choice for saving the environment and securing the future for children and grandchildren.

This is the currently the best EV you can get for the price. Nissan still has the $7500 federal tax credit and it makes a big difference in the total you pay. Almost as good as the VW eGolf but isthat car is discontinued. With the tax credit you should be able to get one for less than $20,000. Mine was $18.500 once I figured in the tax credit.

I have the 40 kW Battery Leaf. Range is about 140 miles. I wish I had the Leaf Plus. Range would be over 200 miles. But, my current Leaf is almost perfect for my needs as a runabout. I have had zero problems with it, except for a flat tire due to a roofing nail.

Full disclosure: I have never owned an EV before this one, and there are things that are different in the way you drive and approach travel. That being said, this car is great! It’s zippy, I can extend the range if I don’t drive it like I would a gas car (lead foot), the interior feels spacious and comfortable, it is easy to get in and out of for my elderly mother, and in general it is fun to drive! The lack of liquid cooling makes charging on a road trip much more challenging, and I wish it wasn’t the CHAdeMO fast charging system.
