What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Frontier?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the transmission behavior, brake feel, and overall cabin condition, since those are the kinds of details that matter most in a used pickup. Focus on whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you want, especially if you’re shopping lower trims and expect more convenience or tech features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Frontier is offered in four trim levels: S, SV, Pro-X, and Pro-4X. The S and SV use an 8-inch touchscreen and a four-speaker audio system, while the Pro trims upgrade to a 9-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker system. Pro-X and Pro-4X also get heated front seats and a heated steering wheel available, plus a more upscale interior treatment.
• Powertrain: A 3.8-liter V6 with 310 hp and 281 pound-feet of torque is standard, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD is available; Pro-X is not offered with 4WD.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is available on every trim, but it is not standard. Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, trailer sway control, a driver-attention monitor, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and rear-door alert. Lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available but not standard on any trim.
• Infotainment: S and SV trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while Pro-X and Pro-4X get a 9-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard on Pro-X and Pro-4X, and Android Auto requires a wired connection. OTA capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the Frontier at up to 20 mpg combined (18 city/24 highway) with rear-wheel drive, and 19 mpg combined (17 city/22 highway) with 4WD.

Which 2023 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, Pro-X, and Pro-4X.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Frontier’s core V6 power and basic tech without the extra comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and can live with the simpler 8-inch screen and four-speaker audio.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while staying below the Pro models. It also gets the Midnight Edition appearance package, which blacks out the grille, wheels, mirrors, badging, interior accents, and headliner.
• Pro-X: This trim is the step up if you want the more premium cabin and tech, including the 9-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, wireless Apple CarPlay, and available wireless charging. It also gets the Pro-trim interior accents and available heated front seats and heated steering wheel.
• Pro-4X: This is the choice if you want the most capability-focused version in the lineup. It adds the same upgraded tech and interior treatment as Pro-X, plus 4WD and the off-road-oriented hardware and tuning that come with the Pro-4X name.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is available on every trim, but it is not standard.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,319 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,831, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $31,901 sits slightly below last year's $32,833.

That tells you the Frontier has softened a bit in the market, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now but may trim some upside if you plan to sell soon. The current pricing trend suggests the truck is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply, which is a good sign for future resale stability. Strong demand for well-rated, well-equipped midsize pickups should help support interest when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Frontier safe?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, trailer sway control, a driver-attention monitor, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and rear-door alert. Nissan Safety Shield 360 is available on every trim, but it is not standard, and lower trims can add features such as lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control as optional upgrades. Pro-4X also gets traffic-sign recognition and intelligent cruise control as standard.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds more standard features while keeping the Frontier’s familiar, established character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $26,774, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $31,901 average.
• It brings a fresh redesign with updated styling, a comfortable cabin, and real off-road capability.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current version, the 2023 is the stronger all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want the redesigned Frontier’s core strengths, the 2022 is the more budget-friendly path.
