Used 2020 Nissan Frontier for Sale nearPortland, OR

How much does the 2020 Nissan Frontier cost?

Prices have softened 4.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 861 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.44/5 user rating and a 5/10 expert rating, which points to a truck that satisfies many owners even if it falls short in some key areas. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, handling, and power, and they also appreciate the straightforward, no-frills design. The expert review echoes that appeal by highlighting the brand-new engine and transmission, plus the truck’s honest, simple character.

The trade-offs are clear: the technology is outdated, and the truck is considered poor value for money. For you, that means the Frontier makes the most sense if you want a basic midsize pickup with strong mechanical appeal rather than a feature-rich daily driver. Even so, 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.44/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a truck that feels dependable in everyday use, with many drivers appreciating its straightforward, trouble-free character and the confidence that comes from a simple design. The expert review also emphasizes the Frontier’s solid construction and the sense that it is built to keep going without drama.

That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition, because long-term ownership risk is more about age and wear than about complexity here.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Nissan Frontier?

At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, frame areas, and signs of uneven wear or repair. Because this truck’s safety record is a weak point, condition and prior damage matter more than they might on a newer rival. It’s also smart to focus on how well the truck has been maintained, since a simple, older pickup can still hide expensive neglect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Frontier is offered in King Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with S, SV, and PRO-4X trims. The PRO-4X stands out with a tube-style roof rack, unique 16-inch alloy wheels, knobby white-letter tires, a standard spray-in bedliner, and bedside graphics, while the base trims are much more basic.
• Powertrain: The truck uses a 3.8-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The new setup is smoother and more refined than the old engine, and fuel economy improves by 1 mpg in combined driving for RWD models and 2 mpg for 4WD models.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, antilock brakes, traction control, and stability control. Advanced driver-assistance features are not part of the package, which is a major gap compared with newer rivals.
• Infotainment: The Frontier’s 5.8-inch touchscreen includes NissanConnect Apps, satellite radio, navigation, voice recognition, and a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate premium sound system. It does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the new powertrain improves fuel economy by 1 mpg in combined driving for RWD models and 2 mpg for 4WD models, and the test loop returned 19.3 mpg against an EPA estimate of 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2020 Nissan Frontier is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X, Value Truck Package, and Special Edition Package.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Frontier’s new V6 and nine-speed automatic. It’s the trim to consider if you value the truck’s basic capability more than extra comfort or appearance upgrades.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more flexibility, including available packages such as the Value Truck Package, Midnight Edition Package, Special Edition Package, and Utility Package. If you want a Frontier that feels less bare-bones without jumping to the off-road-focused model, this is the one to target.
• PRO-4X: Choose this if you want the most distinctive Frontier, especially for off-road use. It adds the truck’s most rugged visual and hardware-oriented touches, including the standard spray-in bedliner and Bilstein off-road shocks, but it also comes with the same outdated tech and limited safety content as the rest of the lineup.

The safety package is thin across the board, so even the better-equipped trims do not solve the Frontier’s core safety shortcomings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Frontier?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 861 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,839, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $21,492 sits slightly below last year's $22,498.

That decline suggests the Frontier has softened in the market, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may be able to reduce your depreciation exposure, especially since the truck’s value has already moved down from where it was a year ago. Strong owner satisfaction can still help support demand, but the Frontier’s age and dated tech will continue to weigh on resale strength.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier safe?

The 2020 Nissan Frontier earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with three-star ratings for the driver in frontal impact, two-star ratings for the front passenger in frontal impact, and a three-star rollover resistance rating for RWD models.

It earns a 1/10 safety score from our experts.

The Frontier’s safety equipment is limited to a reversing camera, antilock brakes, traction control, and stability control. The expert review also flags the truck’s weak crash-test performance, including a marginal result in the IIHS small overlap frontal test and a poor rating for headlights. For you, that means safety is one of the strongest reasons to look elsewhere unless price and simplicity matter more than modern protection.

Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 update brings a brand-new engine and transmission that preview the next-generation Frontier while preserving the truck’s simple, work-ready character.

The bottom line: The 2020 Frontier makes the most sense if you want the updated powertrain and can live with the truck’s dated safety and technology. If you’re price-sensitive, a carefully chosen listing can still be appealing, but you should compare it closely with newer alternatives if safety and modern features matter more to you.
