How much does the 2023 Nissan Altima cost?

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Nissan Altima earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10. Owners repeatedly praise the car’s impressive fuel economy, comfortable daily-driving character, and quality audio system. The Altima is also framed as a straightforward family sedan with broad appeal if you want comfort, efficiency, and simple technology rather than flash. On the downside, the expert review points to fairly pedestrian performance and a cabin that can feel cheap, which lines up with owner comments about missing wireless connectivity features. With 35.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on fuel economy and everyday usability. The expert review reinforces that sense of consistency by describing the Altima as a practical, easy-to-live-with sedan with a good CVT that Nissan has refined over decades. It also notes that the car is built around familiar, proven hardware rather than a complicated setup. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s modest performance and interior quality will still meet your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on visibility-related equipment, brake feel, and the condition of the cabin materials. If you’re comparing trims, pay close attention to which features are standard versus optional so you don’t overpay for a car that still feels stripped down.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim has a 5-inch display and very limited infotainment equipment, while SV and higher trims add a much more usable setup. The base trim also lacks many things you’re likely to want, so moving up from S is close to a necessity.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, while the SR VC-Turbo uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for more power. The standard engine is adequate, but the turbo model is the one to consider if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. Rear automatic braking starts with SV, and ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo.
• Infotainment: The base S gets a 5-inch display, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a hands-free text messaging assistant. SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and SiriusXM 360L, while the available 12.3-inch system adds wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Official EPA combined ratings range from 30 mpg to 32 mpg for the standard engine, and the SR VC-Turbo is rated at 29 mpg combined. Our SL AWD test vehicle averaged 27.4 mpg.

Which 2023 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, SR VC-Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Altima, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the basics, yet the 5-inch display and limited equipment make it the trim most buyers will want to move past quickly.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen and a much more complete feature set without jumping all the way to the luxury-oriented upper trims.
• SR: Choose this if you want a sportier feel and more equipment than SV, including the available larger touchscreen and added driver engagement touches.
• SL: This is the most luxurious non-turbo Altima, with the 12.3-inch infotainment system, Bose audio, and more upscale content. It suits you best if comfort and tech matter more than price.
• SR VC-Turbo: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup along with SL-level equipment. It is the trim for buyers who want the most power and the most complete feature set.

ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,961 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,547, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $20,324 sits slightly below last year's $20,487.

That small decline suggests the Altima is holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that usually means you are not fighting a steep depreciation curve in the near term. The model’s broad appeal as a comfortable, efficient sedan should help keep demand reasonably stable, especially for well-kept examples with clean history reports.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2023 Nissan Altima earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a five-star rollover resistance rating, though it receives a four-star rating for front passenger frontal impact safety. It also earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS for the 2022 calendar year, but the updated IIHS side-impact test gives it a Poor rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every version and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. Rear automatic braking starts with SV, and ProPilot Assist adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist; it is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo. The Altima also gets a standard rear-seat reminder system and Easy Fill Tire Alert.

The IIHS side-impact result is the main caveat to keep in mind when you’re shopping used.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 update brings refreshed styling, new wheel designs, and a larger available 12.3-inch touchscreen.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,230, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,324 average.
• It offers more trim and powertrain variety, including two engines and AWD.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $19,793, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $20,324 average.
• It adds value with available AWD and an upgraded touchscreen on higher trims.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market availability, steady pricing, and updated tech, the 2023 is the best all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 is the sensible alternative if you want a slightly newer model at a lower average price.
