Used 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class cost?

Prices are up 2.91% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 311 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

It is aimed at you if you want a luxury roadster that makes a statement, with stylish design and premium interior materials backing up its presence. The trade-offs are clear: the infotainment system is aggravating, fuel economy is poor, and cargo space is limited.

The market still shows 32.5% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The SL-Class is presented as a polished grand tourer with a premium cabin and strong performance, but it also asks you to live with a control-heavy interior and some everyday compromises. Its performance setup is substantial, with a powerful engine and all-wheel drive, and the car is described as fast and rewarding when you push it.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to improved value versus last year thanks to the more affordable SL 43 model. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same luxury-and-tech complexity that makes the car feel special can also make it more frustrating to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this car’s value depends heavily on condition and equipment. Focus on how well the cabin electronics, roof operation, and driver-assistance features work, since this is a tech-heavy luxury convertible.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the SL 43, SL 55, and SL 63, all in standard Touring trim, with Performance trim available for the SL 55 and SL 63. The cabin is described as luxurious and high-tech, but the touch-sensing controls can reduce driver satisfaction, so base-spec simplicity is not really the point here.
• Powertrain: The SL 55 uses a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It is described as very fast in aggressive modes and as a cruiser in normal driving.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes pop-up roll bars, Pre-Safe Sound, 10 airbags, a surround-view camera system, parking sensors, and active semi-autonomous parking assist. A Driver Assistance Package adds 13 more systems, including adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, active emergency stop assist, and active braking for intersections, cross-traffic, and sudden congestion situations.
• Infotainment: The SL uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen and an 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen with MBUX, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and a one-year Mercedes Me subscription with Wi-Fi hotspot access and online music streaming. The system is feature-rich, but glare, fingerprints, and touch-sensing controls can be frustrating.
• Fuel efficiency: The SL 55 averages 16 mpg in combined driving and returned 16.6 mpg on the testing loop.

Which 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: SL 43, SL 55, SL 63.

Here's the short version:

• SL 43: This is the entry point and the value-oriented choice if you want the SL experience with the lowest starting price in the lineup. It gives you the core design, luxury, and tech theme without moving up into the more expensive performance-focused versions.
• SL 55: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest balance of performance and equipment. It brings the hand-built twin-turbo V8 character and the more serious driving personality that define the SL, while still staying below the top model.
• SL 63: This is the choice if you want the most powerful and most expensive version in the lineup. It is the trim for you if outright performance matters more than value.

The Driver Assistance Package is a worthwhile safety add-on, especially if you want more advanced driver assistance systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings before moving quickly.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 311 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.91% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 94.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $86,466, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class's resale value?

The current average of $95,032 sits slightly above last year's $92,341.

That upward move suggests the market has held up well for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The current price trend also indicates that demand has remained steady enough to support values rather than push them down.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class safe?

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with standard pop-up roll bars, Pre-Safe Sound, and 10 airbags. A Driver Assistance Package adds 13 more systems, including adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, active emergency stop assist, and active braking for intersections, cross-traffic, and sudden congestion situations.

The lane-keeping and lane-centering systems can feel less sure of themselves in bright sunlight, so you should pay attention to how the assistance tech behaves on your test drive. The standard setup is strong, but the optional package is the one that meaningfully expands the safety toolkit.

Should I buy a 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.91% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year benefits from the addition of the more affordable SL 43 model, which improves the lineup’s value.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the newer SL lineup with stronger value than the prior year and you’re comfortable paying for style, luxury, and performance. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2023 is the better pick when you want the updated range and can find a well-priced example.
