Why it stands out
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a used luxury sedan that still feels thoroughly modern. In its fifth-generation form, it was described as a scaled-down S-Class with advanced safety and luxury features, and it paired that upscale character with a wide range of body styles and powertrains over the generation’s run. For buyers, that means the E-Class has long offered the kind of comfort, space, and prestige that make it a benchmark in the mid-size luxury class.
What makes the 2023 model especially appealing is how much equipment and refinement it brings. The generation’s standard equipment was lavish, with electric adjustment for the steering wheel and front seats, a rear-view camera, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, and a wealth of driver assistance safety features. It also had a luxurious, high-tech interior feel, and most versions used two side-by-side 12.3-inch display screens. The model range for this generation was broad, with rear-wheel drive and 4Matic all-wheel drive both available on some versions, and Mercedes-AMG models adding serious performance to the lineup.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The E-Class has never been cheap, even by class standards, and some owners have reported juddering brakes and glitchy infotainment systems. The generation is also known for a potential fault with early E300 models that could lead to a cracked piston, so condition and maintenance history matter. Even so, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains attractive because it combines luxury, technology, and a strong reputation for comfort in a package that still feels current.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2023 E-Class is positioned as a used luxury sedan that still feels thoroughly modern, with comfort, space, prestige, and a high-tech cabin that help it stand out in the mid-size luxury class. It also brings a lavish standard equipment list and a broad range of body styles and powertrains, so you can shop for the version that best fits your needs. With 35.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 E-Class is described as a refined, well-equipped luxury sedan, but you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition. Reported issues such as juddering brakes, glitchy infotainment, and a potential cracked-piston concern on early E300 models make careful screening especially important for used buyers. Long-term ownership risk is manageable if you verify service records and avoid neglected examples.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a clean history report and confirm that the car’s maintenance records are complete. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you want to catch brake behavior, infotainment glitches, or signs of uneven wear before you commit. Focus on overall condition and documentation, since a well-kept example is the best way to reduce risk in this luxury sedan.

- Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,030 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $47,632, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $47,632 sits slightly below last year's $54,447.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation rather than broad market momentum. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because buyers in this segment tend to reward clean history and strong presentation.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $38,945, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $47,632 average.
- It keeps the refreshed E-Class formula with few changes.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $53,990, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $47,632 average.
- It adds a redesign with a more advanced cabin and standard all-wheel drive.
The bottom line:
The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want a modern-feeling E-Class with strong satisfaction and a softer price than the newer redesign. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest tech and redesign, the 2024 is the upgrade path to consider.
