Is the 2023 Lucid Air a good car?

The 2023 Lucid Air earns a 7.2/10 expert rating and stands out as an ambitious first effort from a new luxury EV brand with a stylish design, spacious interior, and impressive electric range.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It works especially well if you want a premium electric sedan that feels distinctive and traditional in shape rather than SUV-like. The trade-offs are a buggy in-cabin technology setup and an aggravating lane-keeping system, and the air conditioning is also ineffective on hot days.

The market still looks reasonably accessible, with 41.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Lucid Air reliable?

The 2023 Lucid Air is presented as an impressive first effort, but its technology bugs and lane-keeping behavior are real concerns for long-term ownership.

The performance side is strong: the car is described as quiet, quick, comfortable, and well suited to cruising, with an electric-drive setup engineered to maximize interior room and passenger comfort without giving up power or capability. On the other hand, the in-cabin tech regularly creates confusion and frustration, and the climate system struggled in hot weather.

Lucid also says the Air’s advanced driver-assistance hardware is built around up to 32 sensors, and the car includes a broad standard safety package. If you’re shopping used, the biggest ownership risk is that software and driver-assistance quirks may remain part of the experience unless updates have meaningfully improved them.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Lucid Air?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a thorough inspection, especially if the car has been used in hot climates or shows signs of heavy tech use. Focus on how the cabin electronics behave, whether the climate control works properly, and whether the driver-assistance systems feel consistent on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, and Sapphire. The Pure made the starting price more approachable, while the test vehicle’s options showed how much equipment can be layered on top of it.
• Powertrain: The test car used a dual-motor AWD setup with 480 hp, 384 miles of maximum range, 121 MPGe, and a 200 kW maximum recharging rate. Lucid says the car can be configured with up to three motors and much higher output in other versions.
• Safety package: DreamDrive is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, rear pedestrian detection with automatic braking, distracted and drowsy driver alert, traffic sign recognition, parking sensors, and semi-autonomous parking assist. DreamDrive Premium adds a surround-view camera system and blind-spot cameras, while DreamDrive Pro adds Highway Assist.
• Infotainment: The Air uses a 34-inch Glass Cockpit display with 5K resolution, plus a 12.3-inch Pilot Panel. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay, OTA updates, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, while Android Auto is coming soon through an over-the-air update.
• Range & charging: The test car delivered 384 miles of maximum range and could add 200 miles in around 15 minutes on a fast charger. Lucid also recommends home charging for easier ownership.
• Battery health: For a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged over time, and review remaining battery warranty coverage. A car that has mostly seen home charging and limited DC fast charging is generally the safer bet for long-term use.

Which 2023 Lucid Air trim should I buy?

The 2023 Lucid Air is offered in 4 trim levels: Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, and Sapphire.

Here's the short version:

• Pure: This is the trim that made the Air’s starting price more approachable, so it is the best-value choice if you want the Lucid experience without chasing the highest sticker price. It still gives you the core Air formula: stylish design, a spacious cabin, and strong range.
• Touring: Choose this if you want to move up from the entry trim while staying focused on the Air’s luxury-sedan mission. It should appeal if you want a more upscale balance without jumping all the way to the highest-priced versions.
• Grand Touring: This is the better pick if you want the more premium end of the lineup and are willing to pay for it. It suits you if range, comfort, and a richer equipment mix matter more than value.
• Sapphire: This is the top performance-oriented trim and sits in a different price class entirely. It is for buyers who want the most extreme version of the Air rather than the best bargain.

DreamDrive is standard, while DreamDrive Premium and DreamDrive Pro are available for added camera and highway-assist capability.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Lucid Air?

It looks like a buyer’s market for the 2023 Lucid Air, especially if you’re comparing listings carefully and waiting for the right example.

• Deal availability: 41.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 407 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $39,014, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Lucid Air's resale value?

The current average of $39,014 sits slightly below last year's $49,501.

That drop suggests the used market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to resell later, the upside is that you may be entering at a lower basis than early shoppers did.

The downside for a future seller is that the current price trend points to softer demand relative to last year. If the market stays this way, you may need to price competitively to move the car.

Is the 2023 Lucid Air safe?

The 2023 Lucid Air earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

DreamDrive is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, rear pedestrian detection with automatic braking, distracted and drowsy driver alert, traffic sign recognition, parking sensors, and semi-autonomous parking assist.

DreamDrive Premium adds a surround-view camera system and blind-spot cameras, while DreamDrive Pro adds Highway Assist with lane-centering assist. The caveat is that the lane-keeping and lane-centering behavior can be unsettling and inconsistent, so you should test those systems carefully before buying.

Should I buy a 2023 Lucid Air or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 41.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.19% compared with last year.
• It’s the year that brings a more affordable Pure trim and shows Lucid’s early long-term potential.

Consider the 2024 if:

• It adds a new Sapphire trim and brings drastic price changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2023 is the smarter starting point because prices are down and deal availability is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the next step in Lucid’s lineup, the 2024 is worth a look.
