Summary
With 8,149 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,702.00, 34.7% of 2023 Jeep Compasses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Jeep Compass 4.4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Compass stands out because it brings a meaningful mechanical upgrade to Jeep’s small crossover formula. A new turbocharged engine is standard, and the model also now has standard all-wheel drive, a more sophisticated transmission, and additional safety features. Those changes address long-running complaints about the Compass and make it feel more modern and better equipped than before.
Even with those improvements, the Compass still has some drawbacks that matter to shoppers. The available information points to poor value for the money, poor visibility, and a cramped back seat. Owners also praise the stylish design, upgraded interior, larger touchscreen, and advanced technology, but some still feel the powertrain lacks the acceleration and power they want, especially compared with competitors.

Reviewed a 2023 Jeep Compass on Jul 8, 2023
The 2023 Jeep Compass is nothing short of an impressive upgrade to its predecessor, exemplifying Jeeps commitment to listen and respond to customer feedback. However, despite the undeniable improvements, it seems that Jeep has merely taken a half-step with the power upgrade, failing to live up to the level of progress weve seen elsewhere in the vehicle. First things first, lets applaud Jeeps design team. The 2023 Compass boasts an evolved aesthetic that keeps the spirit of the original, but its clearly a more refined, modern version. The bold grille, sleeker LED headlamps, and a more streamlined silhouette add an element of sophistication that previously eluded this model. Its the kind of vehicle that is as comfortable on urban streets as it is on rugged country trails. Inside, the Compass delivers a solid punch with an upgraded infotainment system, larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital drivers display that clearly takes cues from higher-end siblings in the Jeep family. The revamped interior not only appears more luxurious, but is also more intuitive, with a user-friendly layout and comfortable seating for all. Safety, one of Jeeps core principles, is also significantly improved in the 2023 Compass. With enhanced advanced driver-assist technologies such as Lane-Keeping Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and an improved Blind-Spot Monitoring System, the Compass confidently keeps up with modern safety standards, offering peace of mind on both city and off-road drives. Yet, the Achilles heel of the 2023 Jeep Compass lies under its hood. Jeep has indeed made updates to the powertrain with a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, now delivering 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. While this is an improvement over the previous model, the boost feels more like a small step rather than the giant leap this vehicle needed. The engine struggles to deliver swift acceleration, making it feel underpowered compared to competitors in its segment. On the highway, the Compass does reasonably well but could benefit from a bit more oomph during overtaking. Similarly, when the road gets rough and tumble, the Compass, despite its four-wheel-drive capabilities, leaves the driver wishing for just a bit more gusto under the pedal. In summary, the 2023 Jeep Compass is undoubtedly a commendable upgrade that showcases Jeeps commitment to its customers. With an elegant design, improved interior, and enhanced safety features, its a solid choice for anyone seeking a compact SUV. However, when it comes to the all-important power, Jeep still has some way to go. It feels like the brand stopped short of delivering the kind of powertrain that would elevate the Compass from being good to being exceptional. We cant help but feel that Jeep missed an opportunity here to make the Compass a true segment leader. Thus, were giving it a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars, leaving room for that essential engine improvement that would complete the package.

How much does the 2023 Jeep Compass cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,674 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,637.15 |
| Year-Round High | $23,511.22 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,515 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.58% |
Prices have softened 3.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,315 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $21,637.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Jeep Compass a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the stylish design, upgraded interior, and advanced technology, and they also like the larger touchscreen and more user-friendly cabin. The Compass also comes across as a solid compact SUV choice in owner feedback.
The trade-offs are the poor value for the money and the cramped back seat, and the expert review also points to poor visibility. That makes the Compass more appealing if you care most about a polished cabin and modern tech than maximum space or bargain pricing.
With the overview emphasizing a meaningful mechanical upgrade, standard all-wheel drive, and additional safety features, this model year is aimed at shoppers who want a more modern small crossover. The market still shows 34.3% good or great deals, so there’s room to shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Jeep Compass reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a vehicle that feels dependable and solid over time, with praise centered on the upgraded interior, improved safety features, and overall satisfaction. The expert drive notes that the new turbocharged engine is quieter, smoother, and more refined, and the transmission shifted flawlessly in testing.
Jeep also includes three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance through Jeep Wave, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Compass still has some value and packaging compromises, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Jeep Compass?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the powertrain, electronics, and any signs of hard use. Focus on cabin condition and visibility-related wear, since those are areas where this model can be less forgiving.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup starts with Sport, then moves through Latitude, Latitude Lux, and Limited, with Trailhawk as the off-road-focused version. Base trims miss some of the more upscale presentation and equipment that make the Compass feel more modern.
- Powertrain: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is standard, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. It delivers 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, with an EPA rating of 27 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Automatic high beams are not on the base Sport.
- Infotainment: Every model gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth for two devices, SiriusXM, connected services, Wi-Fi access, and OTA updates. A 10.25-inch digital instrument panel is available depending on trim and configuration.
- Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy rating is 27 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 23.8 mpg.
Which 2023 Jeep Compass trim should I buy?
The 2023 Jeep Compass is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, Trailhawk.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the standard turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, and the core tech and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Compass and can live without the nicer cabin touches.
- Latitude: This is the first step up if you want a more appealing everyday setup without jumping too far in price. It adds enough equipment to make the Compass feel more polished, but it still sits below the trims that really elevate the interior and feature content.
- Latitude Lux: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves the Compass closer to the upscale feel owners like, while staying below the pricier upper trims. If you want the sweet spot between equipment and cost, start here.
- Limited: This trim is the one to choose if you want the most upscale on-road experience and the richest tech presentation. It suits you best if you care about the refined cabin, larger display setup, and available Highway Assist.
- Trailhawk: Choose this if you want the most off-road-oriented Compass. It adds Jeep Active Drive Low, a low range, a 20:1 crawl ratio, Rock mode, hill descent control, skid plates, recovery hooks, and extra ground clearance.
Trailhawk, Limited, and High Altitude are the trims available with Highway Assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Jeep Compass?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,315 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,637.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Jeep Compass's resale value?
The current average of $22,674 sits slightly below last year's $23,515.
That price movement suggests the Compass has softened enough to help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. A lower current average can support demand from value-focused shoppers, especially when the vehicle still offers strong tech and standard all-wheel drive.
If you keep the Compass in good condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Jeep Compass safe?
It earns 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep adds a standard drowsy driver detection system and a rear-seat reminder system for this model year, and all but the base Sport trim feature automatic high-beam headlights. Standard advanced driver assistance includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, traffic sign recognition, and front and rear parking sensors. Trailhawk, Limited, and High Altitude can also be equipped with Highway Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist for limited-access highways.
The IIHS had incomplete test results for this model year, and the NHTSA had not published results at the time of review, so you should check both agencies before buying.
Should I buy a 2023 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 brings a standard turbo engine, standard all-wheel drive, and more safety features.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $21,153, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $22,674 average.
- It emphasizes premium interior materials and Jeep brand appeal.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $21,195, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $22,674 average.
- It offers strong value at the lower end of the lineup with good tech and impressive safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this compact Jeep, the 2023 is the better all-around pick because it adds the major mechanical upgrade and standard all-wheel drive. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 and 2024 both deserve a look, but the 2023 remains the most balanced choice for shoppers who want the newer powertrain and feature set.
