CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Honda Pilot
overall

Summary
With 3,209 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,193, 32.7% of 2023 Honda Pilots for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Pilot 4.42 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
84.8% of 2023 Pilot models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Pilot stands out as a fully redesigned midsize three-row crossover with a more rugged appearance, more power, and more thoughtful convenience items. It also offers high levels of comfort, useful tech features, and an off-road-capable TrailSport model, which helps give it broader appeal than a typical family hauler. In a crowded class, those traits make it easy to see why it is considered one of the stronger choices.
For buyers, the Pilot’s stylish design, plenty of cargo space, and comfortable cabin are clear advantages. Owners also praise its spaciousness and comfortable ride, along with room for up to 8 passengers. The main tradeoff is that fuel economy is merely average, and some drivers have criticized the infotainment system as underwhelming compared with competitors.

It's nothing fancy, but for an 8-seater, it's comfortable, drives really nice, and isn't a gas guzzler.

The LX is a base model Pilot. No bells & whistles if that's what you want. Which is what I wanted. The only options I would've liked on it would've been remote start & electric seat adjustments. Other than that I'm content with it.

| Year-Round Low | $36,873 |
| Year-Round High | $39,751 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,752 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.47% |
Prices have softened 6.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,213 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a good car?
Generally — the 4.42/5 user rating and 7.5/10 expert rating point to a well-liked SUV with broad appeal. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the Pilot’s spaciousness, comfortable ride, and room for up to 8 passengers, and they also like its stylish design and family-friendly practicality. The main trade-offs are average fuel economy and an infotainment system that some drivers found underwhelming. For you, that means the Pilot makes the most sense if you want a roomy three-row SUV that prioritizes comfort and everyday usefulness over standout efficiency or flashy tech. Good and great deals account for 33.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily family use, with repeated praise for spaciousness, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Pilot’s advanced safety features worked as intended during testing, which supports confidence in how the vehicle is likely to hold up in regular use. Honda also includes a broad standard safety suite, which can reduce the burden of adding aftermarket protection. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a neglected example could be more expensive to live with if you prioritize fuel economy and tech satisfaction.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free rate does not replace a clean record on the specific SUV you’re considering. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Since this model is aimed at family use, pay close attention to wear in the second and third rows, cargo-area condition, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the entry point, but the EX-L is the value leader because it adds a power liftgate, leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener, second-row sunshades, and more of the useful safety and technology equipment. If you want the most rugged version, the TrailSport is the one built for that role, while the Touring and Elite bring additional convenience and tech.
- Powertrain: The Pilot uses an all-new 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trims, while all-wheel drive is available across the lineup and standard on the Elite and TrailSport.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while the TrailSport and Elite include surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
- Infotainment: The EX-L and higher trims get the larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and USB ports in every row. Higher trims also add a multi-view camera system, while the Touring and Elite bring navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control through a smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. AWD drops that to 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the TrailSport is rated at 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2023 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the starting point, but it is best if you simply want the Pilot’s core space and comfort at the lowest entry price. It is the least expensive way into the lineup, though the EX-L is the better value if you want the most useful everyday features.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim. It adds the power liftgate, leather upholstery, universal garage door opener, second-row sunshades, the larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and more of the safety and convenience equipment that makes the Pilot easier to live with.
- TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s off-road-capable character. It adds a one-inch taller ride height, unique 18-inch wheels, chunky all-terrain tires, and underbody skid plates, making it the right pick for buyers who actually plan to leave pavement.
- Touring: This trim is for you if you want more premium family-hauler features. It adds navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control via a smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, making it a stronger fit for tech-heavy households.
- Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment. It adds a head-up display, a fully digital instrument panel, and the most complete convenience and camera setup in the lineup.
The EX-L and higher trims also get additional safety and parking features, while the TrailSport and Elite include the surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,213 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.47% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $37,178 sits slightly below last year's $39,752.
That softer pricing trend suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim choice than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still attract attention, but you should expect buyers to be price-sensitive if the vehicle shows wear or lacks the features they want.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot safe?
The 2023 Pilot received a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard Honda Sensing features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while the TrailSport and Elite include surround-view and multi-view camera systems. If you plan to use the TrailSport off pavement, you may want to disable some proximity warnings and low-speed automatic braking because obstacles can trigger them too easily.
Should I buy a 2023 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.47% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model year stands out for its fully redesigned, more rugged look, more power, and the TrailSport’s off-road-capable setup.
The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with strong family appeal, the 2023 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2023 gives you the most compelling mix of comfort, utility, and updated features in this generation.
