How much does the 2023 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 7.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,414 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda Pilot earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked used SUV with broad appeal. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfortable ride, and room for up to 8 passengers. The overview also points to plenty of cargo space and a practical family-friendly layout, while the expert summary highlights high levels of comfort and useful tech features. The main trade-offs are that fuel economy is merely average and the infotainment system can feel underwhelming compared with rivals.

If you want a roomy three-row crossover that prioritizes everyday usability over flash, this one fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 33.2% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and solid for family use, which is the kind of feedback shoppers often associate with dependable ownership. The expert driving notes also emphasize smooth, confidence-inspiring operation in normal use, with the Pilot tuned for comfort and easy daily driving rather than drama.

Honda also frames the Pilot as a family-focused SUV with thoughtful convenience and safety features, which supports the impression of a vehicle built to be lived with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that average fuel economy and mixed impressions of engine performance could matter more if you rack up a lot of miles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with off-road use. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin tech and driver-assistance features work as expected. If the listing is a TrailSport, pay extra attention to underbody condition and signs of harder use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pilot’s more rugged appearance and larger body are part of the redesign, and the TrailSport adds a one-inch taller ride height, unique 18-inch wheels, chunky all-terrain tires, and underbody skid plates. Base trims miss some of the more useful convenience and tech upgrades, so you’ll want to compare equipment carefully.
• Powertrain: It uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trims, while all-wheel drive is available across the lineup and standard on the Elite and TrailSport.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite add surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
• Infotainment: Higher trims bring a larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and USB ports in every row. Touring and Elite add navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control through a smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. AWD drops to 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the TrailSport is rated at 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it’s the trim most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about convenience and tech. It makes sense only if you’re focused on getting into the Pilot at the lowest price.
• EX-L: This is the value leader. It adds a power liftgate, leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener, second-row sunshades, and the key tech and safety upgrades that make the Pilot feel more complete.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you genuinely want the off-road-capable version. It adds the rugged hardware and extra ground clearance that support its more adventurous character, but it’s best for buyers who plan to use that capability.
• Touring: This trim builds on the EX-L with more premium tech and comfort features, including navigation, Bose audio, remote app functions, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s a good fit if you want a more upscale family SUV.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the head-up display, fully digital instrument panel, and the most complete feature set. It’s the right pick if you want the top-end Pilot experience.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking and front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite get surround-view and multi-view camera systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,414 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $36,158, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $36,158 sits slightly below last year's $39,141.

That softer pricing suggests the Pilot has become more approachable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on condition and equipment. A well-kept example with desirable features should still draw interest, especially because the model has broad family appeal and strong practicality. If you buy smart now, you may have a better chance of preserving value later by choosing a trim and condition level that stands out in the market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2023 Honda Pilot earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite include surround-view and multi-view camera systems.

One caveat is that crash test results are not yet available from NHTSA in the source material, so you should lean on the IIHS result and the standard driver-assistance suite when evaluating safety.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model is fully redesigned, with a more rugged appearance, more power, and thoughtful convenience items that broaden its appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with strong family utility, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may still make sense, but you’ll want to compare equipment closely and focus on condition, because the 2023’s redesign and feature set give it a clear advantage for shoppers who want the most complete version of the Pilot.
