CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Honda Pilot
overall

Summary
With 176 currently listed for sale near Orlando, FL and an average price of $32,310, 35.2% of 2023 Honda Pilots for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Pilot 4.42 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2023 Pilot models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Pilot stands out as a fully redesigned midsize three-row crossover with a more rugged appearance, more power, and more thoughtful convenience items. It also offers high levels of comfort, useful tech features, and an off-road-capable TrailSport model, which helps give it broader appeal than a typical family hauler. In a crowded class, those traits make it easy to see why it is considered one of the stronger choices.
For buyers, the Pilot’s stylish design, plenty of cargo space, and comfortable cabin are clear advantages. Owners also praise its spaciousness and comfortable ride, along with room for up to 8 passengers. The main tradeoff is that fuel economy is merely average, and some drivers have criticized the infotainment system as underwhelming compared with competitors.

It's nothing fancy, but for an 8-seater, it's comfortable, drives really nice, and isn't a gas guzzler.

The LX is a base model Pilot. No bells & whistles if that's what you want. Which is what I wanted. The only options I would've liked on it would've been remote start & electric seat adjustments. Other than that I'm content with it.

How much does the 2023 Honda Pilot cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,236 |
| Year-Round Low | $36,875 |
| Year-Round High | $39,780 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,781 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.40% |
Prices have softened 6.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,220 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Honda Pilot earns a 4.42/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for shoppers who want a family-focused three-row SUV. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfortable ride, and room for up to 8 passengers, and they also like the stylish design and useful cargo space. The main trade-offs are that fuel economy is merely average and the infotainment system can feel underwhelming compared with rivals.
That mix fits the Pilot’s role well: you’re getting a roomy, comfortable, and versatile midsize crossover that’s aimed at families rather than drivers chasing sporty handling. Good and great deals account for 32.7% of listings, so there’s still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free, and family-friendly ownership experience, with many drivers describing it as a vehicle they can count on over the long term.
From the expert side, the Pilot’s powertrain is described as quick to respond, smooth, and tuned for comfort rather than drama, which supports the sense that it’s built for steady daily use. The model also benefits from thoughtful convenience and safety equipment that should help reduce ownership stress.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well and used in a way that matches its family-hauler mission.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and how well the vehicle’s comfort and convenience features work. If you’re considering a TrailSport or AWD model, pay extra attention to tire wear and whether the vehicle has seen the kind of use its equipment suggests.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Pilot’s rugged redesign and TrailSport model give it a more substantial look, while the interior stays functional and versatile. Base-trim shoppers should pay attention to feature gaps, since the more useful convenience and tech items show up as you move up the lineup.
- Powertrain: You get an all-new 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. FWD is standard on most models, while AWD is available across the lineup and standard on the Elite and TrailSport.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite add surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
- Infotainment: Step up to at least the EX-L trim if you want the larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and USB ports in every row. Higher trims add a multi-view camera system, while Touring and Elite bring navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control via smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. AWD drops to 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the TrailSport returns 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2023 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, but the strongest value starts higher in the lineup because the Pilot’s most useful comfort, tech, and safety upgrades arrive on the next trims.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim. You get a power liftgate, leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener, second-row sunshades, and the key tech and safety upgrades that make the Pilot feel much more complete.
- TrailSport: Choose this if you want the off-road-capable version. It adds a one-inch taller ride height, unique 18-inch wheels, chunky all-terrain tires, and underbody skid plates, making it the right pick if you actually plan to explore rougher terrain.
- Touring: This trim is for you if you want more luxury and convenience, including navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control via smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Elite: This is the top trim and adds the head-up display, fully digital instrument panel, and standard AWD, along with the most complete feature set.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking and parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite get the surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,220 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,875, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $37,236 sits slightly below last year's $39,781.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price if the market remains competitive. A model year that has already moved down from its prior average can be easier to shop, but it may also mean resale gains are more limited unless the vehicle is especially well kept.
Strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially for a family SUV with broad appeal and a reputation for comfort and space. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot safe?
The 2023 Pilot received a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on all trims and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite include surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
Should I buy a 2023 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model brings a full redesign with a more rugged appearance, more power, and an off-road-capable TrailSport model.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Pilot with stronger styling, more capability, and a broad mix of family-friendly features, the 2023 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby older year may be worth considering, but the 2023 gives you the most complete version of this generation’s formula.
