CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Honda Pilot
overall

Summary
With 157 currently listed for sale near Orlando, FL and an average price of $32,883.00, 39.5% of 2023 Honda Pilots for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Pilot 4.42 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2023 Pilot models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Pilot stands out as a fully redesigned midsize three-row crossover with a more rugged appearance, more power, and more thoughtful convenience items than before. It aims to blend everyday comfort with a more adventurous personality, and that combination helps explain why it is positioned as one of the stronger choices in a highly competitive class. The available TrailSport model adds to that appeal by giving the Pilot an off-road-capable version for buyers who want a little more capability from their family SUV.
Beyond its new look, the 2023 Pilot is appealing because it emphasizes comfort, useful tech features, and plenty of cargo space. Those strengths make it easy to imagine as a family hauler that can handle both daily errands and longer trips. The tradeoff is that fuel economy is only average, and some owners also felt the engine performance and infotainment system were less impressive than they wanted, which keeps the Pilot from being an outright class leader in every area.

It's nothing fancy, but for an 8-seater, it's comfortable, drives really nice, and isn't a gas guzzler.

The LX is a base model Pilot. No bells & whistles if that's what you want. Which is what I wanted. The only options I would've liked on it would've been remote start & electric seat adjustments. Other than that I'm content with it.

How much does the 2023 Honda Pilot cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,623 |
| Year-Round Low | $36,890.87 |
| Year-Round High | $39,929.58 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,929 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.78% |
Prices have softened 5.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,129 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $36,890.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Honda Pilot earns 4.42/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfortable ride, and room for up to 8 passengers. The review summary also points to its aesthetic appeal and family-friendly practicality, which fits the Pilot’s role as a three-row SUV built for daily errands and longer trips. The trade-offs are that some owners wanted more from the engine and found the infotainment system less impressive than rivals, while the expert notes also call out average fuel economy and steering that feels too light on the highway.
With its focus on comfort, useful tech, and cargo space, it makes sense if you want a family hauler that can handle both commuting and road trips. The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and solid for family use, and it also reflects the kind of dependable, trouble-free ownership many shoppers want from a three-row SUV. The expert drive notes add that the Pilot’s comfort-focused tuning and smooth, easy-to-modulate brakes support relaxed daily use, which can be a good sign for long-term livability. Honda also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit that is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that average fuel economy and the less-loved infotainment setup may be annoyances you live with over time rather than problems that disappear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the drivetrain, brakes, electronics, and any signs of hard use, especially if the SUV has been used for family hauling or road trips. Focus on condition details that matter in a three-row SUV: seat wear, cargo-area scuffs, and whether the tech and safety systems work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Pilot’s rugged styling is more substantial than before, and the TrailSport adds a one-inch taller ride height, unique 18-inch wheels, chunky all-terrain tires, and underbody skid plates. The cabin is more functional and versatile than before, but the base setup misses some of the convenience and capability upgrades found higher up the range.
- Powertrain: You get an all-new 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard for most models, while all-wheel drive is available on all models and standard on the Elite and TrailSport.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite add surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
- Infotainment: Step up to at least the EX-L trim if you want the larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and USB ports in every row. Higher trims add a multi-view camera system, and Touring and Elite bring navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control via a smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. AWD drops to 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the TrailSport is rated at 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2023 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, and TrailSport.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, but it is the least compelling choice if you care about convenience and tech. It gets the core Pilot package, yet the stronger value story starts higher up the lineup.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim. It adds the larger infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, USB ports in every row, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener, second-row sunshades, and the key safety and technology upgrades that make the Pilot feel more modern.
- TrailSport: Choose this if you want the off-road-capable version. It adds the rugged hardware and extra ground clearance, and it is the right pick if you have legitimate plans to explore moderately challenging terrain.
- Touring: This trim makes sense if you want more luxury and convenience, including navigation, Bose premium audio, remote monitoring and control via a smartphone app, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Elite: This is the top-end comfort and tech choice. It adds a head-up display, a fully digital instrument panel, and the multi-view camera system, while also including AWD.
- TrailSport: If you want the most adventurous Pilot, this is the one to target for its off-road-focused equipment and TrailWatch camera system.
The TrailSport and Elite trims also include the multi-view TrailWatch camera system, which is especially helpful when you want better awareness around the vehicle.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting a fire-sale environment.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,129 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,890.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $37,623 sits slightly below last year's $39,929.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should still draw interest, especially because this model year has strong family appeal and broad usefulness.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Honda Pilot safe?
The 2023 Pilot received a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on all trims and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. EX-L and higher trims add low-speed automatic braking plus front and rear parking sensors, while TrailSport and Elite include surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
In our time driving the new Pilot, the advanced safety features worked as expected with no false alarms. If you plan to off-road, some proximity warnings and low-speed automatic braking may need to be disabled because obstacles can trigger them.
Should I buy a 2023 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Fully redesigned for 2023 with a more rugged appearance, more power, and an off-road-capable TrailSport model.
The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign, the 2023 is the stronger pick because it brings the updated styling, improved capability, and a well-rounded family-friendly package. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 gives you the most current version of this Pilot formula with strong comfort, useful tech, and broad appeal.
