How much does the 2023 Honda HR-V cost?

There are 4,534 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda HR-V earns a 4.4/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, strong feature content for the price, and overall value. The overview also points to a redesigned small SUV with a more modern feel and a strong standard equipment list, which fits shoppers who want a well-equipped subcompact SUV without moving up to a larger vehicle.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and no hybrid option. The expert notes also call out that it is not the quickest choice in the segment, so if you want brisk acceleration, you may want to look elsewhere.

The market still shows healthy interest, with 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user review summary points to a vehicle that feels like a strong value and one that owners are happy to live with over time. That kind of feedback matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the HR-V is the sort of SUV people can count on for everyday driving.

The expert notes also describe the HR-V as practical and easy to live with, with a cabin and feature set that support regular use. Honda’s complimentary maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles adds a helpful ownership perk early on.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the HR-V’s modest power and efficiency complaints may be more noticeable if you plan to keep it for a long time and drive it in demanding conditions.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the most affordable way in, but the Sport adds a more distinctive look plus heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a six-speaker audio system, Smart Entry, remote start, and walkaway auto lock. The EX-L is the most upscale choice, with perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, an eight-way power driver’s seat, and a more premium cabin feel.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 HR-V uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive and AWD are both available, and the setup is tuned more for everyday use than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, while EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 7-inch color touchscreen, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. LX and Sport use wired versions, while EX-L adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch display, a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad, and six programmable shortcuts.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is EPA-rated at 28 mpg combined in FWD form and 27 mpg combined with AWD. It takes regular gas.

Which 2023 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the full Honda Sensing safety suite, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, a digital gauge cluster, and the core HR-V experience. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest price and are comfortable giving up the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more distinctive appearance, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Smart Entry, remote start, walkaway auto lock, and a six-speaker audio system. If you want a nicer daily driver without jumping all the way to the top trim, this is the one to focus on.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale version, with perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, an eight-way power driver’s seat, wireless phone integration, a 9-inch display, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker audio system. It suits you best if you want the most premium cabin and the most convenience features.

Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, while EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,534 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,500, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $23,660 sits slightly below last year's $24,454.

That price movement suggests the HR-V has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean future resale gains are likely to be gradual rather than dramatic. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should be better positioned when it’s time to sell.

The current market range also shows that values have settled into a fairly tight band, which usually points to steady demand rather than sharp swings. That can be helpful if you plan to own the vehicle for several years and want predictable depreciation.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2023 Honda HR-V has not yet been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the 2022 model got a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and mostly “Good” scores from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beams, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, while EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.

The main caveat is that the prior model missed out on an IIHS Top Safety Pick designation because of poor results in side crash tests, headlights, and seatbelt reminder systems. That makes the new model’s updated safety hardware especially important to verify in real-world use.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda made Honda Sensing standard across the lineup, and the redesigned HR-V brings a more modern cabin and stronger standard equipment than the previous generation.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern HR-V with the strongest standard safety and tech package, the 2023 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 stands out for its updated design and broader standard equipment.
