How much does the 2023 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 3.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,469 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda HR-V earns a 4.4/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for shoppers who want a small SUV with a strong equipment list. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, great features for the price, and strong value. The overview also highlights a more modern feel than the previous generation, with a redesigned cabin and exterior that help it feel more upscale than its price suggests.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and no hybrid option, and some owners also mention slow pickup and less-than-ideal gas mileage. That makes it a better fit if you value comfort, features, and everyday usability more than quick acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 36.6% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The user summary also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with drivers repeatedly calling out its smooth ride, strong value, and feature-rich cabin.

The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the HR-V as a practical, easy-to-live-with small SUV with a comfortable ride and useful standard equipment. Honda also includes complimentary maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about whether the slower powertrain and modest fuel economy will match your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a proper inspection. Focus on tire wear, brake condition, interior wear, and whether the features you want are present on the specific trim you’re considering. If you’re comparing multiple listings, prioritize the one with the cleanest history and the best overall condition rather than the lowest sticker price alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, while Sport adds a more distinctive exterior treatment, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and other comfort and convenience upgrades. EX-L is the most upscale choice, with perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, and an eight-way power driver’s seat.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 HR-V uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. You can choose front-wheel drive or AWD, and the setup is tuned more for everyday efficiency and drivability than strong acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, while EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 7-inch color touchscreen, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. LX and Sport use wired versions, while EX-L gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch display, a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad, and extra shortcut features.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is EPA-rated at 28 mpg combined in FWD form and 27 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2023 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the redesigned HR-V’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get Honda Sensing, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, a digital gauge cluster, and the same 2.0-liter powertrain as the rest of the lineup.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more distinctive look and useful convenience upgrades without jumping all the way to the top. You get 18-inch black alloy wheels, a more aggressive grille, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Smart Entry, remote start, and a six-speaker audio system.
• EX-L: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale HR-V experience. It adds perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, an eight-way power driver’s seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch infotainment display, wireless charging, WiFi capability, SiriusXM, HD Radio, blind-spot information, parking sensors, and low-speed braking control.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot information is limited to Sport and EX-L, and the EX-L gets the fullest safety and convenience package.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,469 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.36% compared with last year.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $23,734 sits slightly below last year's $24,558.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The current trend suggests the HR-V is holding value reasonably well, but not appreciating, so condition and trim choice will matter when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2023 Honda HR-V has not yet been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the 2022 model got a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and mostly “Good” scores from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beams, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, and EX-L adds front and rear parking sensors plus low-speed braking control.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign brings a more modern cabin, standard Honda Sensing across the lineup, and a stronger feature set than the previous generation.

The bottom line: The 2023 HR-V makes the most sense if you want the redesigned model with standard safety tech and a more upscale feel than the older version. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 is the better pick if you want the newer design and broader standard equipment.
