What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and signs of prior damage or poor repair quality.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while Sport adds a more aggressive look, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a blind-spot information system; EX-L adds perforated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, a larger infotainment display, and more premium cabin touches.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 HR-V uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive and AWD are both available, and the setup is tuned more for everyday usability than strong acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot information is standard on Sport and EX-L, while EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.
• Infotainment: Every HR-V gets a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 7-inch color touchscreen, with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on LX and Sport and wireless versions on EX-L. EX-L also adds a 9-inch display, Qi-compatible wireless charging, WiFi capability, SiriusXM, and HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is EPA-rated at 28 mpg combined, with 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway in FWD form, and 27 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2023 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.82% compared with last year.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $23,305 sits slightly below last year's $24,231.

That softer pricing suggests the HR-V has already moved through some of its initial depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current market average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell. Strong feature content and broad shopper appeal should also help keep demand steady.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.82% compared with last year.

If your priority is simply finding the lowest price, you may want to compare nearby years and shop whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
