Used 2023 Honda Civic Type R for Sale nearIndianapolis, IN

How much does the 2023 Honda Civic Type R cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 169 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

With a 3.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating, you’re looking at a car that clearly resonates with enthusiasts while still offering some everyday usability. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the performance, especially the responsive handling, instant torque, and powerful turbo sound. They also highlight the fun driving experience and the sense that this is the most exciting Honda yet. The overview reinforces that this is a performance-first hot hatch rather than a commuter-minded Civic, though it still has some comfort and practicality on its side.

The main trade-offs are the lack of all-wheel drive and the sluggish touchscreen response. That means you should expect a car that prioritizes driving enjoyment over all-weather traction or polished infotainment speed.

Only 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market has some value opportunities, but you may need to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R reliable?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is presented as a performance car that still benefits from Honda’s broader reputation for durability and long-term dependability. Owners’ feedback also points to a car that feels exciting and satisfying to live with, with strong performance and a driving experience people clearly enjoy.

The expert review notes that the engine and drivetrain are built for hard use, with composed road manners and a lightweight front-wheel-drive layout that helps the car stay controlled when driven aggressively. The cost-effectiveness section also frames it as a compelling option if you can live without all-wheel drive.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core hardware and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained before you get it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a performance car that may have been driven hard. Focus on overall condition, signs of abuse, and whether the car’s equipment and interior surfaces have been cared for properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is more Civic than luxury car, but the Type R adds bright red seats, red floor mats, unique exterior bodywork, a rear wing, and other visual cues that set it apart from a standard Civic. The base setup already includes the key performance and appearance hardware, so you’re mainly checking whether the car’s special trim pieces and interior surfaces have held up well.
• Powertrain: You get a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The limited-slip differential and drive modes are part of the package, and the car is tuned for hard driving rather than relaxed commuting.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, road-departure mitigation, traffic-sign recognition, and blind-spot monitoring. The Type R also uses a single-camera system with eight sonar sensors.
• Infotainment: The cabin gets a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless charging, and a Bose premium sound system. The system is functional and feature-rich, but response speed is a known weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The Type R returns 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Honda Civic Type R trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is offered in 1 trim level: Civic Type R.

Here's the short version:

The Civic Type R trim is the one to buy because it already bundles the full performance setup, the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, and the safety tech you’d want in a used example. Since there isn’t a trim ladder to climb, your decision is less about choosing between versions and more about finding the cleanest, best-maintained car you can.

Honda Sensing adds traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 169 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,532, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $43,818 sits slightly below last year's $44,054.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. You’re not looking at a model year that appears to be dropping sharply in value, so a well-kept example should remain relatively easy to price against the market.

For a future seller, that means condition and mileage will likely matter more than broad market swings. If you buy carefully and keep the car clean, documented, and unmodified, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R safe?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has not been crash-tested by either NHTSA or IIHS, but Honda’s safety hardware and the related Civic platform’s results point in a reassuring direction.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, road-departure mitigation, traffic-sign recognition, and blind-spot monitoring. The car also uses a single-camera system with eight sonar sensors to support those features.

One caveat is that the Type R’s performance focus can make it tempting to drive aggressively, so you should pay close attention to how the car was used and maintained before you buy.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2023 stands out as a bombastic, fast, and instantly memorable hot hatch with more power and performance than before.

The bottom line: If you want the sharper, more immediate buy and you value a stable market with decent deal availability, the 2023 is the right target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop the broader market carefully and focus on the cleanest example rather than chasing the newest listing.
