How much does the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 8.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,898 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — 4/5 is a solid user rating for this heavy-duty pickup. The 2023 Sierra 2500HD stands out for its broader range of trims and more luxury-oriented options than many rivals, especially if you want a premium-leaning heavy-duty truck with Denali and Denali Ultimate versions. It also gives you a wide spread of configurations, including multiple cab styles, bed lengths, and available rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, so you can tailor it to work, comfort, or a mix of both.

That flexibility makes it appealing if you want capability without giving up upscale features and tech. 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Sierra 2500HD has a strong appeal if you want a heavy-duty truck with comfort and technology baked in, but used examples can show issues such as check engine lights, infotainment sluggishness, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate problems, and faulty trailer brake controllers. That means reliability is best judged by the specific truck in front of you, not just the badge.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is manageable if you verify maintenance history and avoid trucks with unresolved electrical, transmission, or tailgate concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a thorough inspection of the truck’s electronics, transmission behavior, and trailer-related systems. Pay close attention to how the infotainment works, whether shifts feel smooth, and whether the MultiPro tailgate and trailer brake controller operate correctly.

Because this model can be expensive when new and complex in higher trims, condition matters a lot. A clean, well-documented truck is the one most likely to reward you over time.

If you find a listing below $54,023, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $54,023 sits slightly below last year's $58,912.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively now but may also mean future resale gains are more limited in the near term. If you plan to sell later, condition and trim choice will matter a lot, especially in a truck with a wide spread of configurations and pricing.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $51,033, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $54,023 average.
• It balances capability with everyday versatility.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $65,619, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $54,023 average.
• It adds a top-tier luxury trim with stronger towing muscle.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and upscale heavy-duty appeal, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the better secondary option because it undercuts the current-year average while keeping the Sierra 2500HD’s core strengths.
