CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford F-150
overall

Summary
With 9,599 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,048, 33.2% of 2023 Ford F-150s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford F-150 4.94 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
91.3% of 2023 F-150 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford F-150 stands out because it combines long-running popularity with the kind of capability that keeps it at the top of the full-size pickup segment. Ford’s lineup also grows again for this model year, and the most attention-grabbing addition is the F-150 Raptor R, which brings a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine rated at 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. That version also gets exclusive R-tuned Fox live-valve shocks and standard 37-inch all-terrain tires, underscoring that this truck can be as extreme as it is capable.
Beyond the headline-grabbing performance model, the 2023 F-150 still appeals on the basics that matter to truck buyers. It offers class-leading towing and payload ratings, impressive technology, and great safety ratings. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: fuel economy is poor with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the test truck’s ride quality is called out as poor, and some interior materials feel cheap. Even so, the overall package remains compelling because it pairs serious work-truck strength with a broad range of features and configurations.

Awesome car, seats aren’t full leather but still look awesome. Safety and tech features are above par, drives really nice.

I like the trailer hook up, the mobile office, dual glove box on the dash. The truck is comfortable and performs well. It gets the same fuel mileage as a Toyota and is much roomier and can haul a lot more by volume and weight. The price has gone up lately because ford has problems making new ones. This will pass and the price should go back down.

Can’t beat the coyote 5L V8. Great engine. Truck was overpriced, though all truck prices are inflated right now. Stop making trucks so luxury and just focus on the things a truck should do.

Thought I got a great deal on the truck, which is loaded with features. Bought my last truck, another F150, 22 years ago. Love those Ford trucks. The truck has many new features than the 2003 but the overall performance and great look remains the same. Got 4x4 this time also!

Is the 2023 Ford F-150 a good car?
Yes — 4.94/5 owners’ rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, smooth ride, and modern features like the large touchscreen and advanced safety tech. The truck also earns credit for its long-running popularity, serious capability, and broad range of configurations, which makes it easy to tailor to work or everyday use. On the downside, some buyers may find the pricing high and the luxury features unnecessary for their needs, while the test truck’s ride quality and some interior materials drew criticism.
With its mix of work-truck strength and everyday usability, it fits you best if you want a full-size pickup that can handle towing, hauling, and family duty without feeling stripped down. Good and great deals account for 33.8% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as powerful, smooth, and modern, and their feedback points to a truck they feel good about living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the truck feels structurally solid and that the brakes are stout, which supports confidence in day-to-day dependability. Ford’s maintenance perk language is not included in the available data.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific truck you choose has been cared for properly, since condition and configuration can vary widely.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-150?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because the F-150 can be configured in so many ways. Focus on how the truck was used, whether it has the equipment you need, and whether the condition matches the asking price. If you are shopping a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example, pay extra attention to wear, maintenance records, and any signs of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans everything from the work-focused XL to the high-performance Raptor R, and the XLT Heritage Edition adds two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive 75 Years interior details. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to which convenience and appearance features are missing before deciding whether the lower price is worth it.
- Powertrain: The truck offers multiple engines, including a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that makes 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the available four-wheel-drive system uses a two-speed transfer case.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 includes automatic high beams, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic reverse braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist, and speed-sign recognition. Some of these features may vary by trim or equipment.
- Infotainment: Sync 4 brings a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, enhanced voice recognition, and SiriusXM 360L. Ford Pass Connect and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are also standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The test truck was rated at 19 mpg combined by the EPA, and it returned 17 mpg in testing.
Which 2023 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford F-150 is offered in 8 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Tremor, and Raptor.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the work-truck starting point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and plan to add only the equipment you truly need. It is the trim to consider if value matters most and you do not need a lot of luxury content.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the strongest mix of everyday usability, technology, and flexibility. The available XLT Heritage Edition adds two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive interior details, making it the sweet spot if you want more personality without jumping to a much pricier model.
- Lariat: Move here if you want a more upscale feel and are interested in the available adaptive damping suspension mentioned in the expert notes. It suits you if comfort and refinement matter more than keeping the price as low as possible.
- King Ranch: This trim is for buyers who want a more premium, distinctive truck experience and are willing to pay for it. It makes sense if you want the F-150 to feel more special without going all the way to the top-end models.
- Platinum: Choose this if you want a luxury-leaning F-150 with a more polished presentation. It is a good fit if you care about upscale features and a more premium cabin atmosphere.
- Limited: This is the high-end choice for shoppers who want the most exclusive version of the standard lineup. It is best if you want maximum equipment and are comfortable paying for it.
- Tremor: Pick this if you want a more off-road-focused setup than the mainstream trims provide. The expert notes point to it as one path to available adaptive damping suspension.
- Raptor: This is the performance-focused trim for buyers who want the most extreme capability and attitude in the lineup. It sits at the top of the regular performance ladder before the Raptor R.
The safety package is comprehensive, but some features are tied to package or trim selection rather than every version.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-150?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 9,606 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $41,877, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $42,019 sits slightly below last year's $43,608.
That softer pricing trend suggests the truck is holding value reasonably well, but not so tightly that future sellers can expect a premium just for owning one. If you buy at the right price now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later. Strong demand for full-size pickups helps, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, condition, and equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford F-150 safe?
The 2023 Ford F-150 earns high marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, coupled with a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes automatic high beams, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic reverse braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist, and speed-sign recognition.
The expert evaluation notes that adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist work well overall, while lane assist can be a little overactive in tighter curves and may tug the truck toward the center line. The blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and surround-view camera are especially useful in daily driving and parking.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year brings the debut of the Raptor R and the XLT Heritage Edition.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $46,046, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,019 average.
- It adds a multi-functional tailgate and more available interior technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a few thoughtful updates and newer-model-year appeal, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
