How much does the 2023 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 6.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,608 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2023 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which supports its appeal as a well-rounded midsize SUV. The overview points to a rear-wheel-drive-based platform, better handling than previous Explorers, and a strong mix of space, technology, and family-hauling capability. You also get a long list of standard convenience and driver-assistance features, plus seating for up to seven or a six-passenger layout with captain’s chairs. 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview says the 2023 Explorer has a better reliability record than its predecessors, which is encouraging if you want a used three-row SUV with broad capability. It also notes that the initial 2020 models had a relatively high number of gremlins, so condition and maintenance history still matter. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is buying a neglected example that hasn’t been properly maintained or inspected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Explorer?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a history report to confirm accident status, title status, and service records. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the drivetrain, electronics, and interior features, since this model leans heavily on technology and convenience equipment. Focus on overall condition and maintenance consistency, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more advanced options.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,608 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,144, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $31,144 sits slightly below last year's $33,273.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For future resale, a lower purchase price can reduce your downside if the market stays steady. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment should matter more when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,086, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $31,144 average.
• It offers a broad trim spread and a practical family-focused package.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around used buy, the 2023 is the better primary target because it combines solid inventory, a softer price trend, and strong owner satisfaction. If your top priority is saving money upfront, the 2022 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
