What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the suspension, steering feel, cabin wear, and any signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for work and towing. Focus on whether the truck’s condition matches the trim and equipment level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom use the older interior layout with a smaller screen and more hard controls, while every other trim gets a more modern, high-tech dash design centered around a large touchscreen. The WT is the most basic, and the Custom adds wireless phone integration and a few convenience upgrades.
• Powertrain: The base turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while available upgrades include a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder. Rear-wheel drive is standard, four-wheel drive is optional, and the transmission setup varies by engine.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and Teen Driver. The LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The base setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most trims above WT and Custom get a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel inline-six with rear-wheel drive returns 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The gasoline turbo-four returns 19 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most stripped-down version, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, rubberized flooring, a 7-inch touchscreen, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-frills work truck and don’t mind the older cabin layout.
• Custom: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, a power-locking tailgate, and more USB ports. It’s a smart step up if you want everyday usability without jumping too far in price.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the off-road-oriented choice based on the Custom, adding standard four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers. It suits you if you want trail capability without moving all the way to the top of the range.
• LT: This is where the Silverado starts to feel much more modern, with the high-tech infotainment system, a fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It’s a strong pick if cabin tech matters more than bare-bones utility.
• RST: This trim focuses more on appearance, with 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches. It’s for you if you want a more styled truck without chasing luxury features.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the more upscale off-road path, combining the LT’s more modern cabin with the Trail Boss hardware. It’s a good fit if you want capability and a better interior balance.
• LTZ: This is probably the best-value trim for creature comforts, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and extra USB ports. If you want the sweet spot between luxury and value, this is the one to watch.
• High Country: This is the luxury-level trim, with features like a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats. Choose it if you want the most upscale Silverado experience.
• ZR2: This is the top off-road model, and the 2023 update adds the Bison package with heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles. It’s the right pick if off-road hardware is your priority.

The LTZ also adds the most meaningful safety upgrades, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera system.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.13% compared with last year.
