General Motors is known for its excellent chassis tuning and platform development, which greatly benefits Cadillac’s CT4. The car offers sharp, responsive handling and maintains comfortable ride quality at almost all times. Having said that, most of the Caddy’s rivals deliver a more refined, cohesive driving experience. The non-V CT4 is available with two four-cylinder engine options for 2023. The base unit is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A beefier 2.7-liter inline-four is available that produces 310 horsepower in the CT4 Premium and 325 horsepower in the CT4 V-Series. Torque lands at 350 and 380 pound-feet, respectively. The smaller engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the optional mill comes paired with a ten-speed automatic. Enthusiast-friendly rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, and Cadillac also offers all-wheel drive (AWD). Though it’s technically a luxury car, when it comes to materials, quality, and design, the CT4 falls more on the mainstream brand end of things than some other premium automakers’ vehicles do. That said, the car does still feel upscale, and it’s plenty comfortable for longer trips. The front seats are deep, well-padded, and generously bolstered for excellent support. Back-seat passengers don’t enjoy the same luxuries, however: The space is cramped, and headroom is lacking. The same is true for the trunk, where the CT4 manages just 10.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The CT4 gets the latest Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system, which is smoother and more intuitive than previous versions. The car comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen and a rotary controller. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, and USB inputs are also standard. A configurable digital gauge cluster is also standard, and Cadillac offers a full-color head-up display. The 2023 CT4 is too new to have full crash-test results, and it has never been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It has also not been scored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Cadillac equips a generous list of standard advanced driver aids, including automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warnings, forward pedestrian braking, rear-parking assist, rear-seat reminders, a safety alert seat, and a teen driver mode. The safety alert seat system uses vibrations on both sides of the front seat to alert the driver of oncoming traffic and other safety issues. GM’s teen driver mode lets parents set a vehicle top speed, maximum radio volume, and other limits for new drivers. The 2023 CT4 is available for configuration on Cadillac’s site now.
