How much does the 2023 BMW M3 cost?

Prices have softened 1.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 302 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW M3 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.

The data points to a car that blends sports-car performance, family-car usefulness, and luxury-car polish in one package. That makes it especially appealing if you want excitement without giving up everyday usability.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, the technology can be unintuitive, and road noise can be intrusive. Even so, the M3’s high build quality and impressive materials help justify its price if you value a premium-feeling performance sedan.

29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The M3 is described as a car that exudes quality in its materials and construction, and it comes with a comprehensive warranty, roadside assistance, basic connected services, and complimentary scheduled maintenance for the duration of a typical lease, if not longer. Its performance is also presented as smooth, refined, composed, and communicative, which supports confidence in day-to-day use.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s core capability and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and hasn’t been driven hard without care.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance sedan like this can see harder use than the average used car. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and the condition of the brakes, tires, and suspension. You should also pay close attention to the technology and interior condition, since the car’s interface and cabin materials are a big part of what you’re paying for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the standard M3, the M3 Competition, and the M3 Competition xDrive. The standard M3 is the only one with a traditional manual transmission, while the Competition models move to an eight-speed automatic and the xDrive version adds all-wheel drive. If you want the most engaging setup and the lowest entry price, the standard M3 is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: Every M3 uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. The standard version makes 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while Competition models increase output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft. The standard car uses a six-speed manual with rev-matching, and the Competition models use an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters, Drivelogic, Sport and Manual modes, and Launch Control.
• Safety package: The standard Active Driving Assistant includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every M3 also includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, BMW Assist eCall with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency call button, automatic post-collision braking, and front and rear parking sensors. Competition models can add the Driving Assistance Professional package, which brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, evasive steering assist, Steering Assistant, lane-change assist, and an Extended Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: BMW Curved Display pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system running iDrive 8. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, connected services, navigation, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Wireless smartphone charging, a personal eSIM 5G connection, a drive recorder system, and a head-up display are available upgrades.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 18.4 mpg on the evaluation loop, and the official EPA combined rating is 19 mpg.

Which 2023 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M3 is offered in 3 trim levels: M3, M3 Competition, M3 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the one to buy if you want the purest version of the car and the only manual transmission in the lineup. It gives you the full M3 experience with 473 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and the most direct driver involvement.
• M3 Competition: This is the best-value choice if you want more power and quicker acceleration without stepping all the way up to xDrive. It adds the 503-hp tune and the eight-speed automatic, making it the better fit if you want speed with less effort in daily driving.
• M3 Competition xDrive: Choose this if you want the quickest version and the added traction of all-wheel drive. It’s the most capability-focused trim, but it’s also the one that moves furthest from the manual, rear-drive character that makes the standard car special.

The standard Active Driving Assistant is included, while the more advanced Driving Assistance Professional package is available on Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 302 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.95% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $79,878, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $82,199 sits slightly below last year's $83,837.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean a seller has less room to push for a premium than before. Even so, the M3’s strong desirability and premium positioning should help it remain relatively resilient compared with ordinary sedans.

If you’re planning to sell later, condition and mileage will matter a lot, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to be selective. A well-kept example with the right equipment and a clean history should still draw attention.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 safe?

The 2023 BMW M3 features a full slate of driving assistance systems.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Active Driving Assistant includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every M3 also includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, BMW Assist eCall with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency call button, automatic post-collision braking, and front and rear parking sensors.

Competition models can add the Driving Assistance Professional package, which brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, evasive steering assist, Steering Assistant, lane-change assist, and an Extended Traffic Jam Assistant that works at speeds under 40 mph.

The BMW 3 Series sedan on which the M3 is based gets high marks in all crashworthiness assessments from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but the organization hasn’t published specific ratings for the M3 itself. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 3 Series sedan the highest possible ratings in all of its tests, including rollover resistance, but does not apply those ratings to the M3 model.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Prices have softened 1.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 still looks like a compelling buy thanks to its softened pricing, solid inventory, and strong owner satisfaction.
