What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it appears clean, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, driver-assistance systems, and ride quality, since this model leans heavily on technology and comfort features. Focus on condition and equipment level, especially if you want the features that make the XC60 feel more premium.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum trim is the entry point for the B5 mild hybrid, while the B6 skips that base trim and starts higher up the range. The Inscription trim adds Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the R-Design test car emphasized a sportier look and feel with aluminum mesh speaker grilles and textured seats.
• Powertrain: You get B5 and B6 mild-hybrid setups built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 48-volt electrical system, with the B6 adding an electric supercharger. The B5 is available with FWD or AWD, while the B6 is AWD only. The plug-in hybrid Recharge adds a rear electric motor and significantly more output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Ready to Drive Notification and Emergency Stop Assist are new for 2022. Pilot Assist is available in an option package, so not every XC60 gets it.
• Infotainment: The XC60 uses a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, a built-in WiFi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, third-party app access through Google Play, and over-the-air software updates. Apple compatibility is included, but Google-profile syncing is not.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 is rated at 26 mpg combined with FWD and 24 mpg combined with AWD. The B6 is rated at 24 mpg combined. The Recharge plug-in hybrid is rated at 57 MPGe combined with 19 miles of electric range and 25 mpg combined in hybrid mode.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 7 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, B6, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point for the B5 mild hybrid, so it makes sense if you want the XC60 experience at the lowest starting point. It gives you the core design, safety, and tech foundation, but you’ll want to compare it carefully against higher trims if you care about luxury touches.
• R-Design: This is the better pick if you want a sportier appearance and a more expressive cabin. It’s a strong choice for buyers who value style and a more distinctive feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• Inscription: This is the best-value trim if you want the most upscale cabin upgrades, thanks to Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It suits you if comfort and premium materials matter more than chasing the sportiest look.
• B6: This trim brings the stronger mild-hybrid powertrain and AWD-only setup, so it’s the right move if you want more performance and standard traction. It’s the one to consider if you want the smoother, more powerful version of the gas model.
• T8 Recharge Inscription: This is the plug-in hybrid route for buyers who want efficiency and electric-only driving capability along with a more luxurious cabin. It makes sense if you can charge regularly and want the added flexibility of a PHEV.
• T8 Recharge R-Design: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier presentation. It’s the right fit if you want efficiency without giving up a more athletic visual theme.
• Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused plug-in hybrid, with more output, adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar. It’s the one to buy if you want the most aggressive XC60 experience and are willing to pay for it.

Pilot Assist is available as part of an option package rather than standard equipment, so check each listing carefully if that driver-assistance feature matters to you.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,401 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.17% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.9% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $27,378 sits slightly below last year's $33,052.

That drop suggests the XC60 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and worrying about near-term value loss. For a future seller, the softer pricing environment means resale gains are less likely in the short run, but the model’s premium positioning still gives it a recognizable market presence. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually list it again.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 hasn’t been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA, but the similar 2021 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star frontal and side crash ratings and four-star rollover ratings.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. For 2022, Volvo also added Ready to Drive Notification and Emergency Stop Assist. Pilot Assist is available in an option package and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering. If you’re comparing listings, note that Pilot Assist is not standard on every XC60.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and the Android-based infotainment system.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,171, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,378 average.
• It offers luxury appointments, strong safety, and a comfortable, easy-to-live-with character.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,701, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,378 average.
• It builds on the plug-in hybrid formula with strong tech, safety, and electric-driving appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the updated tech and powertrain lineup at a more approachable price than newer years, the 2022 is the smart middle ground. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering much of the XC60’s core appeal. If you want the plug-in hybrid direction and can spend more, the 2023 is the more expensive path.
