Used 2022 Volkswagen Taos for Sale nearAkron, OH

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Taos cost?

Prices have softened 10.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,746 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Volkswagen Taos earns a 4.38/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the roomy interior, excellent gas mileage, and peppy around-town performance. The overview also points to strong everyday usefulness, with plenty of cargo space and affordable advanced safety features.

The main trade-offs are the irritating transmission and the unintuitive technology. The Taos is aimed at you if you want a practical, space-conscious crossover that prioritizes value and utility over polish.

With 39.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling daily driver, with praise for the roomy cabin, excellent gas mileage, and overall quality. That kind of repeat satisfaction usually matters more than a single feature when you’re trying to judge long-term ownership confidence.

Volkswagen also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. Even so, the transmission complaints and tech frustrations suggest you should pay close attention to how the vehicle drives and functions before you buy.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is ending up with a Taos that already shows the drivetrain or infotainment annoyances owners mention.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Taos?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a thorough test drive that checks low-speed drivability, transmission behavior, and how the infotainment system responds. Focus on overall condition, because the owner feedback suggests the cabin and tech experience matter a lot in day-to-day use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, and it uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen while the SE and SEL move up to an 8-inch display. The SEL adds more upscale cabin materials, including two-tone perforated leather with contrast stitching, stitched dashboard trim, and matching door inserts.
• Powertrain: Every Taos uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel-drive versions use an eight-speed automatic, while 4Motion all-wheel-drive versions switch to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that can feel harsher and less smooth.
• Safety package: IQ Drive is the named driver-assistance suite. On the S, it is a $995 option and adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. On the SE, the package includes only the features that are not already standard. The SEL includes all of this equipment as standard, plus rain-sensing wipers, road sign recognition, low-speed Travel Assist with traffic-jam assistance, and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.
• Infotainment: All trim levels include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Car-Net connected services, with an available Wi-Fi hotspot. Starting with SE trim, you get the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM with 360L, voice control, and wireless smartphone charging. The SEL adds navigation and an eight-speaker BeatsAudio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Taos is described as fuel-efficient, and the SEL 4Motion returned 28 mpg in combined driving in EPA testing and 27.1 mpg in testing.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Taos trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, SEL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes the Taos’s value case strongest if you want the basics and plan to shop carefully for safety equipment. It gets the standard 6.5-inch touchscreen and the core Taos formula, but the IQ Drive safety suite is an option rather than standard equipment.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM with 360L, voice control, and wireless smartphone charging. It also gets the safety package with only the features not already included, which makes it a smart middle ground.
• SEL: This is the most upscale version, with standard IQ Drive, rain-sensing wipers, road sign recognition, low-speed Travel Assist with traffic-jam assistance, rear parking sensors with automatic braking, navigation, BeatsAudio, and richer interior materials. Choose it if you want the most equipment and the most complete safety setup.

The SEL is the only trim that includes the full safety package as standard equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Taos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 39.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,746 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,118, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos's resale value?

The current average of $18,118 sits slightly below last year's $20,300.

That decline suggests the Taos has become more affordable in the used market, which can help you buy in at a lower entry point. For a future seller, though, the same softness means you should expect resale values to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level.

The trims with stronger safety and tech content may be easier to market later because they fit what used shoppers tend to want in a small crossover. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle clean and well documented, you improve your odds of holding value better than the average listing.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos safe?

The 2022 Taos earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ Drive suite is the key safety story here. On the S, it is optional and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. On the SE, only the features not already standard are included in the package, while the SEL gets the full set as standard equipment.

Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance, and Emergency Assist can slow the vehicle and bring it to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. The SEL also adds rain-sensing wipers, road sign recognition, low-speed Travel Assist with traffic-jam assistance, and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

Because the Taos was new, crash-test results were not available at the time of the review.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Taos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It launched the Taos as a roomy, affordable crossover with strong safety and utility.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,699, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,118 average.
• It adds more standard safety features and equipment.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and a strong value story, the 2022 is the better starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for added standard equipment, the 2023 is the cleaner upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2022 remains the more compelling buy.
