How much does the 2022 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,085 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota RAV4 earns 4.44/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its practicality, comfort, spacious interior, and strong performance in different weather conditions. They also highlight its advanced technology features and sound system, while some note the cabin can feel basic and that pricing can run high.

That lines up with the RAV4’s use case as a polished, practical compact SUV with broad everyday appeal. It is especially well suited if you want a roomy, versatile vehicle with a more mature design rather than the lowest sticker price.

The market also looks healthy, with 37.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.44/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the RAV4 as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with strong long-term appeal and a reputation you can count on. The expert review also points to well-earned long-term dependability and durability, which reinforces that message.

Toyota’s ownership story is helped by the model’s straightforward gas powertrain and its reputation for durability. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the platform itself and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, even when the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you are comparing higher-mileage examples or vehicles with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you are considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The gasoline RAV4 comes in LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road trims. Base trims are more basic, while higher grades add more equipment and a more polished feel.
• Powertrain: The gasoline model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker audio system. XLE models and above upgrade to a 9-inch touchscreen, while Limited models add available premium audio and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models return 27-28 mpg city/35 mpg highway/30 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 25-27 mpg city/32-34 mpg highway/28-30 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core RAV4 formula with standard safety tech, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the efficient 2.5-liter engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and do not need extra comfort or convenience features.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without jumping too far in price. You get the 9-inch touchscreen upgrade and a better-equipped feel while keeping the RAV4’s practical strengths intact.
• XLE Premium: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin and a stronger sense of polish. It builds on the XLE with more equipment and is the trim the experts point to as the smart choice for most buyers in the broader lineup.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most comfort and tech in the gas lineup. It is the trim to consider when you want the most complete on-road experience short of the specialty models.
• Adventure: This trim leans into a more rugged personality and was the test vehicle used in the review. It suits you if you want the RAV4’s practical side with a more distinctive look and AWD-focused capability.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the choice if you want the most trail-oriented gas RAV4. It is the most specialized trim in the lineup and is aimed at buyers who want the off-road character that the name suggests.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, while higher grades add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but still enough demand to reward quick action on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,085 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,218, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $27,376 sits slightly below last year's $28,090.

That softer pricing suggests the RAV4 has become a little more buyer-friendly in the near term, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it means the market is not currently pushing values upward, so condition and trim choice matter even more when it is time to resell.

The good news is that the RAV4 still has broad appeal, and that helps support demand over time. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, and the RAV4 Prime is a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking, and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking is available on upper grades.

The RAV4 also includes Toyota’s Star Safety System, eight airbags, and Safety Connect with emergency assistance, stolen vehicle locator, roadside assistance, and automatic collision notification. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines mature styling, roomy practicality, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,869, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,376 average.
• It offers broad trim choice and a practical, everyday character.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,099, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,376 average.
• It updates the infotainment system for a more current feel inside.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want a well-rounded RAV4 with strong safety, broad appeal, and a healthier used-car market than the 2023. If price is your top priority, the 2021 can save you money, but the 2022 is the better balance of value, features, and current-market availability.
