How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 4.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,339 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for used-car shoppers.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and they also describe it as a solid car that feels well worth the investment. The Corolla’s broad configuration range adds to its appeal, since you can shop sedan or hatchback body styles, manual or automatic transmissions, and multiple powertrain options. In practical terms, that makes it a good fit if you want a sensible compact car with a lot of ways to tailor it to your needs.

The main trade-offs are outdated technology and sluggish performance, with a design that may not appeal to everyone. Even so, the Corolla’s versatility and everyday usefulness help it remain a strong choice. About 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable design and a car that owners feel good about keeping, which is exactly the kind of language used when shoppers are looking for something they can count on. The expert review also frames the Corolla as a reliable and sensible compact car, reinforcing that reputation for trouble-free ownership. Toyota’s warranty coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers.

If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the Corolla’s core reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been abused.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on overall condition, since the Corolla’s value proposition depends on finding one that still feels clean, well kept, and mechanically sound. If you’re comparing trims, pay close attention to equipment differences so you know whether a lower-priced car is missing features you care about.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan lineup includes L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE, plus Apex Edition and Nightshade Edition versions of SE and XSE. Base trims are simpler, while higher trims add more style and equipment.
• Powertrain: The Corolla sedan offers a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 139 horsepower on L, LE, and XLE models, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 169 hp on SE and XSE models. A CVT is standard with the smaller engine, while the 2.0-liter can also be paired with a six-speed manual on SE and SE Apex Edition models.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels.
• Infotainment: The L base model gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trim levels get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with CVT is rated at up to 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, while the manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE, Apex Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest entry point, and it makes sense if your priority is getting into a Corolla at the lowest cost. You still get the Corolla’s core safety and practicality, but fewer comfort and tech extras than the higher trims.
• LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the Corolla affordable while adding a more complete everyday feature set than the base trim.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale Corolla experience and are willing to pay for it. It’s the trim to consider if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping the price down.
• SE: This is the trim to buy if you want the Corolla’s more engaging side, since it brings the 2.0-liter engine and can be paired with a manual transmission. It’s the right pick if you want a little more character without going all the way to the sportiest versions.
• XSE: This is the most feature-rich mainstream Corolla sedan trim and a good fit if you want the strongest mix of equipment and performance-oriented content. It also gets access to the available upgraded audio system.
• Apex Edition: This is the choice for buyers who want the sportiest Corolla flavor, with model-specific suspension tuning, a lowered ride height, and a sport exhaust system. It suits you best if driving feel matters more than ride comfort.
• Nightshade Edition: Pick this if you want the SE or XSE look with blacked-out styling details rather than a major mechanical change.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on all trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,339 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $18,468 sits slightly below last year's $19,246.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry point today can make it easier to preserve value later, especially if you choose a clean, well-kept example with strong equipment and a good history. The Corolla’s broad shopper appeal should continue to support demand, even if it isn’t the flashiest compact car on the market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and five-star ratings from NHTSA, including five stars in frontal and side crash tests and four stars in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels. The main caveat is that headlights received lower IIHS ratings on some trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year stands out for its broad configuration range, including sedan and hatchback body styles, manual and automatic transmissions, and multiple powertrain options.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,037, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,468 average.
• It emphasizes affordability, reliability, efficiency, and a more engaging SE/XSE driving character.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the broader market selection and a still-reasonable price. If your top priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value path.
