How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 4.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,269 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and many also appreciate its features. The Corolla’s broad configuration range makes it appealing if you want a compact car that can be tailored to your needs, whether you prioritize everyday usefulness or a more engaging setup. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and sluggish performance, with a design that may not suit everyone.

With its mix of versatility, efficiency-minded options, and everyday usefulness, it fits you best if you want a sensible compact car rather than something flashy. The market still shows healthy interest, with 33.9% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the Corolla as dependable, practical, and well worth the investment, which points to a car you can count on over time. The expert review also emphasizes that it is a reliable and sensible compact car, with a reputation for being built around everyday usability. Toyota’s three-year, 36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty add some ownership reassurance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific car has been maintained well and still feels fresh enough for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or shows uneven wear. Focus on condition details that matter in daily use, including interior wear, infotainment usability, and how the car drives at low speeds and on the highway. If you’re considering a sportier trim, pay extra attention to ride quality and whether the setup still feels comfortable enough for your commute.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Corolla sedan is offered in L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE grades, plus Apex Edition and Nightshade Edition versions of SE and XSE. The base L has a smaller 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch unit, and some higher trims add more upscale or sportier styling touches.
• Powertrain: The sedan offers a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 139 horsepower on L, LE, and XLE models, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 169 hp on SE and XSE models. A CVT is standard with the smaller engine, while the 2.0-liter can also be paired with a six-speed manual on SE and SE Apex Edition models.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on the L, while all other trim levels get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The sedan is rated at up to 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway with the 2.0-liter engine and CVT, while the manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. The Corolla Hybrid is also noted as extremely fuel-efficient at 52 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE, Apex Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Corolla lineup, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-frills version with the standard safety and connectivity features. It is the trim to choose if your priority is value over extras.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the Corolla’s core strengths while moving you beyond the bare-bones setup. It is a smart pick if you want a balanced daily driver without paying for sportier or more upscale equipment.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented Corolla with the higher-end equipment available in the lineup. It suits you best if you care more about a nicer-feeling commuter than about sporty styling.
• SE: This is the trim to consider if you want the more engaging Corolla setup, including the 2.0-liter engine and the option of a manual transmission. It is the right fit if you want the Corolla’s practicality with a little more personality.
• XSE: Pick this if you want the strongest mix of sportier character and available equipment in the standard lineup. It is the trim to target if you want a more premium-feeling Corolla without going into the special editions.
• Apex Edition: This is the most distinctive choice if you want the sportiest Corolla variant, with model-specific suspension tuning, a lowered ride height, and a sport exhaust system. It is best for you if you value sharper handling and a more aggressive look, but it rides more firmly.
• Nightshade Edition: Choose this if you want the SE or XSE with blacked-out styling details rather than a major mechanical change. It is mainly for buyers who care about appearance and want a more dramatic look.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,147, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $18,403 sits slightly below last year's $19,215.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the model’s broad appeal and reputation for practicality should help it stay relevant with used-car shoppers. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, the Corolla’s steady demand can support a respectable resale position later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 brings forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it is not standard on all trim levels. The main caveat is that headlight ratings vary by trim level, with some versions earning lower IIHS marks.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its broad configuration range, including sedan and hatchback body styles, manual and automatic transmissions, and multiple powertrain options.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,047, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,403 average.
• It blends affordability, reliability, and efficiency with a more engaging personality in SE and XSE trims.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall shopping pool and the latest 2022 setup, this year makes sense. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2022 market’s current breadth, the 2021 is the more budget-conscious path.
