How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 4.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,219 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and they describe it as a solid car that feels well worth the investment. The Corolla’s broad configuration range also helps it fit different needs, from a straightforward commuter to a more engaging SE or XSE setup. On the downside, the expert notes call out outdated technology and sluggish performance, with styling that may not appeal to everyone. For you, that means the Corolla makes the most sense if you want a sensible compact car that prioritizes usefulness and choice over flash. Good and great deals account for 33.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable design and a car that many people feel good about keeping for the long haul. The expert notes also describe it as a reliable and sensible compact car, with a reputation for durability and everyday dependability. Toyota’s warranty coverage is in line with the segment, and the Corolla’s broad appeal suggests it should remain easy to live with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Corolla’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

At 67.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with a sportier trim or higher mileage. Focus on condition details that matter in daily use: interior wear, signs of cosmetic damage, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the specific car you’re viewing. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the right features is usually the better buy than the cheapest one on paper.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Corolla’s styling changes by trim, with SE and XSE models getting a more aggressive front fascia, Nightshade Editions adding blacked-out trim, and Apex Editions adding a subtle body kit with bronze accents and model-specific 18-inch wheels. Base trims are simpler and less flashy, so you should check whether the look and equipment level match what you want.
• Powertrain: The Corolla sedan offers a 1.8-liter four-cylinder in L, LE, and XLE trims, while SE and XSE models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. A CVT is mandatory with the smaller engine, and the 2.0-liter can also be paired with a six-speed manual on SE and SE Apex Edition models.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels.
• Infotainment: The base L trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system are standard, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with CVT is rated at up to 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, while the manual SE Apex Edition is rated at 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. The Corolla Hybrid is more efficient, but that’s a separate model.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE, Apex Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost Corolla and don’t mind the smaller 7-inch touchscreen and fewer visual extras.
• LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the broader standard equipment set while staying focused on everyday commuting.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay more for a better-equipped Corolla without moving into the sportier trims.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the Corolla’s more engaging personality, since it adds the 2.0-liter engine and opens the door to the manual transmission.
• XSE: Pick this if you want the strongest mix of sportier styling and available equipment, including the larger touchscreen and available premium audio.
• Apex Edition: This is the enthusiast-leaning choice, with a sport exhaust, lowered suspension, and sharper handling, but it rides more firmly and doesn’t add engine upgrades.
• Nightshade Edition: Choose this if appearance matters most, since it focuses on blacked-out styling rather than mechanical changes.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,219 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,153, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $18,382 sits slightly below last year's $19,169.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than just the badge alone. The Corolla’s broad demand and practical reputation should still support interest over time, especially for well-kept examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels. The main caveat is that the headlights received lower IIHS ratings on some trims, so you should pay attention to the specific equipment on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its broad range of body styles, transmissions, and powertrain choices.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,972, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,382 average.
• It emphasizes affordability, reliability, efficiency, and a more engaging SE/XSE driving feel.

The bottom line: If you want the broader current-year market and a well-rounded used compact car, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Corolla’s core strengths.
