Used 2022 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near Vermont

How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 3.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,465 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. The 4Runner also stands out for its off-road capability and easy-to-use technology, which fits buyers who value utility over polish.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy, sluggish performance, and an outdated interior. In practical terms, you should expect a truck-like SUV that works well for adventure-minded use, but feels less refined for everyday commuting than many crossovers.

Good and great deals account for 35.0% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the 4Runner as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with a reputation for rugged durability that supports long-term ownership confidence. The 4.0-liter V6 is described as reliable, and that durability focus fits the vehicle’s truck-based character.

Toyota also backs it with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still budget for age-related wear and inspect carefully, since this is a rugged SUV that may have seen harder use than a typical family crossover.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension wear, underbody condition, and signs of off-road use. Pay close attention to interior condition too, since the cabin is a known weak point relative to the vehicle’s rugged strengths.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 includes push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, a WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Premium SR5 adds HD radio, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats. The Trail Special Edition adds a unique monotone paint scheme, a cargo basket, a sliding rear cargo deck with under-floor storage, a premium accessory cooler, and all-weather floor mats. The TRD Sport adds 20-inch wheels, X-REAS performance suspension, a hood scoop, black roof rails, sport badging, and synthetic leather upholstery. The TRD Off-Road adds 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, crawl control, active traction control, and a terrain management system. The TRD Off-Road Premium adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and additional driver assistance features. The TRD Pro adds enhanced shock absorbers, a 15-speaker JBL premium stereo system, a surround-view camera system, an off-road camera system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a moonroof. The Limited adds 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and X-REAS sport suspension.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. It is described as reliable and decent off the line, but underwhelming in most other driving situations. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD with low range is available.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system require extra spending. The TRD Pro also adds an off-road camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. You cannot upgrade to a larger screen, but you can add navigation, HD radio, and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 16 mpg city, 19 highway, and 17 combined, and those figures are the same for rear-wheel-drive and 4WD versions.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, Trail Special Edition, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core 4Runner experience with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup, but you should expect a fairly basic cabin.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim adds more personality and practical cargo gear, including the cargo basket, sliding rear cargo deck, and accessory cooler. It is a good fit if you want a more adventure-focused setup without jumping to the pricier off-road trims.
• TRD Sport: This is the road-oriented choice, with X-REAS performance suspension, 20-inch wheels, and sport styling touches. It suits you if you like the 4Runner look but spend more time on pavement than trails.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who actually want the 4Runner’s off-road hardware, thanks to 4WD, a locking rear differential, crawl control, skid plates, and terrain management. If capability is your priority, this is the trim to target.
• TRD Pro: This is the most trail-ready version, adding enhanced shock absorbers, a JBL premium stereo, surround-view and off-road cameras, dual-zone climate control, and a moonroof. Choose it if you want the most equipment and the strongest off-road focus.
• Limited: This is the most road-biased trim, with leather, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and X-REAS sport suspension. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort-oriented 4Runner.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and the surround-view camera system are not standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,465 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,195, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $39,271 sits slightly below last year's $40,743.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now. For a future seller, the current trend implies you may not see immediate appreciation, but the 4Runner’s reputation can still support demand over time.

Because the year-over-year change is negative, resale value may be more about holding steady than gaining ground quickly. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you improve your odds of recovering a healthier share of your purchase price later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings in rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, with forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system require extra spending, and the TRD Pro adds an off-road camera system.

The main caveat is that its rollover rating is lower than its frontal and side-impact results, so you should weigh that against the 4Runner’s tall, truck-based design.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances rugged capability with standard modern safety and infotainment tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,849, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,271 average.
• It emphasizes rugged utility and reliability over refinement.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,936, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,271 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right choice if you want the classic 4Runner formula with modern basics and a broad used-car market to shop from. If price matters most, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newer safety content, the 2023 is worth the extra money.
