With the 2022 Tesla Model Y, the American electric vehicle manufacturer expands into a more affordable segment than those its range-topping flagship vehicles occupy. The Model Y’s sleek crossover profile provides a generous 76 cubic feet of cargo space. The Model Y’s battery pack is nestled into the floor and powers motors at the front and rear, creating an all-wheel drive setup. The Long Range can travel up to 315 miles on a single charge and sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The Performance version has a range of 303 miles and a zero-to-60 time of 3.5 seconds. This model also has a sportier suspension and upgraded performance brakes. The Model Y is available with an optional tow hitch, giving it a 3,500-pound towing capacity. The EPA measures EVs in terms of miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent, or MPGe. The Model Y Long Range returns an estimated 122 MPGe, and the Performance returns 111 MPGe. With a Level 2 charger, the Model Y gains 30-40 miles of range per hour. Tesla’s Supercharger network allows it to add up to 160 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Base MSRP for the 2022 Tesla Model Y is $58,990 for the Long Range. The Model Y Performance starts at $63,990. The Model Y battery pack is backed by an eight-year/120,000-mile powertrain warranty.
