CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Tesla Model S

Summary
With 491 currently listed for sale and an average price of $46,752, 25.1% of 2022 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Tesla Model S 4.29 / 5 stars.
82.9% of 2022 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the defining electric sedans because it combines long-range capability, advanced technology, and sports car-style acceleration in a package that helped set the standard for modern EVs. Tesla’s approach to the Model S has always been software-driven, and the car’s constant over-the-air updates are part of what keeps it feeling current. For buyers, that means a used 2022 example benefits from the brand’s ongoing focus on software, charging, and driver-assistance improvements rather than relying on a traditional annual redesign cycle.
By 2022, the Model S had already moved well beyond its early minimalist roots and into a more performance-focused, feature-rich phase. The buying guide notes that from 2022 through 2025, Tesla rolled out Autopilot HW4 and continued making OTA updates with a focus on autonomy and FSD. The 2022 Model S also sits in the post-2021 refresh era, which brought an all-new interior with a yoke steering wheel, a premium 22-speaker, 560-watt audio system, adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, and a range of standard comfort features including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, and a glass roof. The available Full Self-Driving Capability package adds self-parking, Smart Summon, and hands-free highway driving, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available at all.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model S is praised for its speed, technology, and Supercharging network, but some owners point to rear seat space, the practicality of the yoke steering wheel, and the lack of physical dashboard controls as drawbacks. Even so, the 2022 Tesla Model S remains distinctive because it blends futuristic design, strong performance, and a deeply software-centered ownership experience in a way few rivals match.

the model S Tesla is not only a beautiful car, but also a superb auto. I think one of the biggest EV advantages of the Tesla models, is numerous locations of Super Charging Stations, which enable 300 to 600 miles of charge per hour of charge time at only .35 cents per KW hr... and the FSD seems unbelievable amazing & accurate.

The car is not worth the cost. There is no foot room for the back seat rider. Back seat room is too cramped. Interior material is subpar for a luxury car. Yoke stirring wheel is not practical.

How much does the 2022 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $46,706 |
| Year-Round Low | $46,270 |
| Year-Round High | $48,895 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $46,284 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.91% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 490 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 4.29/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the performance and technology, and they also highlight the speed and the extensive Supercharging network. The futuristic design and advanced features are recurring positives as well.
For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you want a long-range electric sedan with a software-driven ownership experience and a strong emphasis on acceleration and tech. The tradeoff is that some shoppers may find the rear seat space and yoke steering wheel less practical than traditional alternatives.
With 25.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience as part of the appeal, alongside the car’s long-term software support and strong charging ecosystem. That combination matters because it suggests the car can remain appealing over time rather than feeling dated quickly.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core concept and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been well cared for and remains in strong condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then inspect the car closely for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or any issues that could affect long-term ownership. Pay special attention to overall condition, since the model’s technology-heavy setup makes it especially important that everything works as intended. If possible, focus on examples with clean records and a well-documented maintenance history.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully before making a move.
- Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 490 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $46,270, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $46,706 sits slightly above last year's $46,284.
That kind of pricing stability suggests the market has been fairly steady, which can help support resale confidence if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, a stable market is useful because it reduces the risk of a sharp drop in value over a short ownership period. It also means condition and mileage will likely matter a lot when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2022 is a strong choice if you want the post-refresh Model S experience with a stable price trend, solid owner satisfaction, and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2022 remains the better all-around pick when you want a balanced mix of value, technology, and market availability.
