Used 2022 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSan Luis Obispo, CA

How much does the 2022 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 8.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,226 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Outback earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its safety features, value for the price, and performance in snowy conditions. They also like the driving experience and rugged look, which fits buyers who want a practical vehicle with a more adventurous personality. The trade-offs are that the base engine can feel underpowered and the infotainment system can be a bit complicated. For shoppers who want a versatile daily driver with weekend-exploration capability, that mix makes sense. Good and great deals account for 37.1% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and worth counting on over time. The expert review also emphasizes Subaru’s careful calibration of its driver-assistance systems, which supports confidence in everyday use. The Wilderness setup is built to preserve that calibration while adding capability, and the model’s standard advanced safety tech reinforces the sense that it is engineered for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, tires, brakes, and any signs of off-road wear if the vehicle has been used hard. Pay close attention to cabin condition and technology operation, since the infotainment system can be a pain point for some owners.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness trim adds a more aggressive stance, 9.5 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, revised bumpers, and rugged interior and exterior details. It also stands apart from standard versions with features like a roof rack system, waterproof cargo protection, and heated seats instead of ventilated seats.
• Powertrain: The Wilderness uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. It comes with all-wheel drive, a CVT with eight programmed ratios, 3,500 lbs of towing capacity, and an EPA estimate of 24 mpg combined.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. It also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning. DriverFocus is not included on this trim.
• Infotainment: The Wilderness uses an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, but voice control is less natural than you might want.
• Fuel efficiency: The Wilderness is rated at 24 mpg combined, and the review notes 21.3 mpg in a mountainous test route.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,226 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,295, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,295 sits slightly below last year's $25,419.

That decline suggests the market has become a little softer, which can work against a future seller if prices continue to ease. On the other hand, the current average still sits within a relatively tight year-round range, which points to steady demand rather than a sharp drop-off. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should still have a reasonable path to resale later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning. One trim-level caveat is that DriverFocus is not included on the Wilderness. The expert review also notes that EyeSight is carefully calibrated and works well in testing, which supports confidence in everyday driving.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.36% compared with last year.

• The 2022 Wilderness adds more off-road capability while preserving Subaru’s carefully calibrated EyeSight system.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,538, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,295 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, reliability, and value over flash.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,191, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,295 average.
