The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact SUV that’s ready for adventure. It provides 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive, as well as intuitive technology and an interior that can take whatever you throw at it. The Crosstrek provides up to 55.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. With the rear seats in use, the Crosstrek offers 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The current generation of the Crosstrek was introduced for the 2018 model year. It received an update in 2021, which carries over to 2022.

In addition to the base trim, the Crosstrek is offered in Premium, Sport, and Limited trims. Standard equipment on the Crosstrek includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, a single USB port, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Remote start is optional on this and other trims.

The Premium trim adds fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped shifter, heated front seats, a second USB port, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and satellite radio. Options on this trim include a power moonroof and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The Sport trim features unique gunmetal exterior accents, a unique wheel design, remote keyless entry, push-button start, and a pair of rear-seat USB ports. The Sport trim also comes with StarTex water-repellant upholstery and Subaru’s SI-Drive with more aggressive throttle and transmission mapping.

The range-topping Limited makes the power-adjustable driver’s seat standard equipment. This trim also adds leather upholstery, HD radio, and a number of driver assistance features, and upgrades the infotainment system to an 8-inch touchscreen.

The base engine in the Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter boxer opposing-four-cylinder engine. It makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual, which is one of the few available stick-shifts among subcompact SUVs. The 2.0-liter is quite sluggish, so buyers may want to consider the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It puts out 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, routed through the CVT. Both engines send power to Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive. The Crosstrek also offers an X-Mode function with hill-descent control. X-Mode optimizes power delivery for slippery conditions. The Crosstrek Sport comes with Dual-Function X-Mode with Deep Snow, Mud, and Dirt drive modes.

The 2.0-liter engine with the CVT returns 28 mpg city, 33 highway, and 30 combined. With the manual transmission, fuel economy drops to 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. The 2.5-liter engine returns 27 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined.

The Crosstrek is short on standard safety tech. Features such as forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring are all offered as available options.

Base MSRP for the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is $22,645. The Premium trim starts at $23,795. The Sport trim starts at $26,995, and the range-topping Limited starts at $27,995. The Crosstrek is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
