Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearCharlotte, NC

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 12.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,373 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The 2022 Ascent is built for you if you need a midsize three-row SUV with standard all-wheel drive and family-focused practicality. Its strengths center on value, safety, and all-weather confidence, while the lineup also adds the new Onyx Edition for shoppers who want a darker, more distinctive look.

The main trade-offs are that the third row is cramped and the styling is uninspired. It also performs better when lane-keeping and lane-centering assistance are turned off.

With 37.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Ascent’s appeal is tied to Subaru’s reputation for durability and its practical, weather-ready setup. Standard all-wheel drive and the brand’s focus on safety reinforce that dependable, use-it-every-day character.

Its turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain is described as brisk, with commendable passing power and a CVT that does a good job keeping the engine in its torque band. Subaru also gives it X-Mode traction control, hill descent control, and generous ground clearance, which adds confidence when conditions get rough.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that the same driver-assistance tech that helps in daily driving can feel less refined than you’d want over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a careful inspection of the third row, interior wear, and how the driver-assistance systems behave on the road. Because this SUV is often bought for family duty, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base trim gives you the essentials, but Premium adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and higher trims bring more convenience and tech. The Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, and StarTex upholstery.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 260 horsepower, a CVT, and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru says it can tow up to 5,000 pounds, and the setup is tuned for broad torque and everyday drivability.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also standard, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires at least Premium trim.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Premium trim upgrades to an 8-inch display with available Starlink connected services, including a WiFi hotspot and remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: The 20-inch-wheel version is rated at 22 mpg combined, and testing returned 20.5 mpg.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want standard all-wheel drive, EyeSight, and the core Ascent experience at the lowest entry point. It’s the trim to choose if you care most about getting the family-hauling basics without paying for extras.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and brings the 8-inch infotainment display with available connected services. If you want the smartest balance of price and equipment, start here.
• Onyx Edition: This is the style-focused middle choice, adding blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, and StarTex upholstery. It suits you if you want more personality without jumping to the top of the range.
• Limited: This trim moves you further up the lineup for a more upscale feel and broader equipment set. It makes sense if you want a more polished family SUV and are willing to pay for it.
• Touring: This is the top trim for shoppers who want the most features, including the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera. It’s the pick if you want the most complete Ascent experience.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Premium trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,373 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,783, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $24,783 sits slightly below last year's $28,383.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

The good news is that the Ascent’s strong value proposition and family-friendly utility should keep it relevant with used shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA in all evaluations except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Subaru also includes steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available starting with Premium trim.

One caveat is that the camera-based system can struggle in low, direct sunlight, and the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering tech can feel less refined than you’d want.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds the new Onyx Edition with blacked-out trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,292, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $24,783 average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive and a practical three-row layout for family use.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the newer model-year value story, the Onyx Edition, and a strong mix of safety and practicality. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better budget path.
