The 2022 Ram ProMaster City is an ideal vehicle for a small business that does not need a full-size pickup truck or a massive cargo van. It is built on a nimble, front-wheel-drive chassis that makes the most out of its footprint. The ProMaster City is offered in wagon and cargo van variants. The wagon has a second-row bench and offers up to 74.2 cubic feet of cargo space, while the cargo van provides 131.7 cubic feet of cargo- or workspace.

Both the wagon and cargo versions are available in a single trim, the Tradesman. This is a simplification from the previous model year, and each comes standard with body-colored front-and-rear bumpers, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a four-speaker stereo, an auxiliary input audio jack, and a 5-inch display audio touchscreen. While it does come with voice commands and streaming audio, the ProMaster City does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The ProMaster City is designed for contractors and small businesses. That’s why Ram offers a number of upfit packages, which load up the ProMaster City with the necessary setup to get the job done. There are specific upfit packages for plumbing, HVAC, electrical, construction, delivery, catering, and more. These upfits are available on the cargo variant of the van.

There is only one engine offered in the ProMaster City, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit that makes 178 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster City returns fuel economy of 21 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined. It is capable of towing up to 2,000 pounds, as well as hauling 1,890 pounds. The latter stat beats out the rival Ford Transit Connect by 340 pounds.

The ProMaster City comes standard with a backup camera and seven airbags. Rear parking sensors are available, but that’s where the driver-assistance technology ends.
