CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Summary
With 846 currently listed for sale and an average price of $159,274, 34.6% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4.67 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class stands out because it blends an unmistakable military-grade shape with modern luxury and serious off-road ability. Mercedes redesigned the G-Class in 2019, but the SUV kept the boxy silhouette that made it famous, and that familiar look remains a big part of its appeal. Underneath, though, it is a much more modern machine, with a plusher interior, electric power steering, and a flat-panel dashboard that integrates two 12.3-inch displays. It also uses Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For buyers, the 2022 model is appealing because it delivers the G-Class formula in a refined, high-end package. The G 550 uses a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 rated at 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 raises output to 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes says the G 550 can reach 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, and the AMG G 63 does it in 4.5 seconds. The SUV also comes with a long list of luxury and safety features, including a large sunroof, digital instrument clusters, Nappa leather upholstery, Burmester sound systems, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.
The tradeoff is that the G-Class remains expensive and thirsty. Fuel economy is poor, with the G 550 rated at 14 mpg city, 17 highway, and 16 combined, while the G 63 returns 13 city, 16 highway, and 14 combined. It is also costly to buy and maintain, but for shoppers who want an SUV with iconic style, strong performance, and genuine off-road capability, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most distinctive choices on the road.

It was a wonderful car to drive, very well built, fast and luxurious. It was a bit expensive given the year as I have seen other 2022 G63s selling in the $180k range plus this one’s Carfax report showed it was in a minor accident.

| Year-Round High | $174,733 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $170,422 |

There are 844 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and conditions.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?
Yes — 4.67/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class stands out because it blends an unmistakable military-grade shape with modern luxury and serious off-road ability. It keeps the boxy silhouette that made it famous, but underneath it is a much more modern machine with a plusher interior, electric power steering, and MBUX infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For you, that means the appeal is less about practicality and more about iconic style, high-end comfort, and genuine capability. With 35.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is presented as a refined, high-end SUV with a modern cabin, strong performance, and a long list of luxury and safety features. It also carries the tradeoff of being expensive and thirsty, which matters when you think about long-term ownership. For used buyers, the biggest reliability risk is less about the badge and more about the cost of keeping a complex, high-end SUV in top condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a full history report, a pre-purchase inspection, and a close look at maintenance records before you commit. Focus on condition details that matter on a premium SUV, especially signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or deferred upkeep. Because this model is costly to buy and maintain, a clean, well-documented example is the safest path.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively rather than rush.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 844 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $159,125, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?
The current average of $159,125 sits slightly below last year's $170,422.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now. For a future seller, the softer trend means you should pay close attention to entry price and condition, because those factors will matter when it is time to resell. A well-kept example with strong documentation should hold up better than one with visible wear or uncertain history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $136,132, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $159,125 average.
- It offers the same rugged, luxury-focused G-Class character with strong off-road appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the newer year with a softer market and a broad listing pool, the 2022 is the better primary target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
