Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10. Owners consistently praise the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The model also fits buyers who want style and driving enjoyment in a compact car, while still getting strong safety credentials. Trade-offs include poor fuel economy and an unintuitive tech setup, so it makes the most sense if you value refinement and feel more than maximum practicality. Good and great deals account for 33.8% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback points to a car you can count on, with repeated praise for its comfortable cabin, strong performance, and overall satisfaction with the ownership experience. The expert review also describes the car as delivering intrinsic value and notes that it holds plenty of appeal across the lineup. Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for three years of ownership, which adds some ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s technology and packaging still suit your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the car’s electronics, infotainment behavior, and overall cabin condition. You should also pay close attention to how the car drives and whether the trim level you’re considering has the features you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans affordable Mazda3 2.0, popular Mazda3 2.5 S, and speedy Mazda3 2.5 Turbo model series. The 2.5 S lineup offers the most variety, while the 2.0 sedan is the most basic choice and the 2.5 Turbo models add more performance and upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 155 horsepower and returns 31 mpg in combined driving. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 186 hp, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers 227 hp on 87-octane fuel or 250 hp on 93-octane fuel, with standard AWD on Turbo models.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher, while the top Turbo Premium Plus adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static infotainment display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for three years. The system also includes remote engine starting and a car finder function.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 sedan returns 31 mpg in combined driving. The 2.5 S range returns between 27 mpg and 30 mpg in combined driving, depending on trim and powertrain. Turbo models return 26 mpg in the hatchback or 27 mpg in the sedan in combined driving.

Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 8 trim levels: Mazda3 2.0, Mazda3 2.5 S, Mazda3 2.5 S Select, Mazda3 2.5 S Preferred, Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition, Mazda3 2.5 S Premium, Mazda3 2.5 Turbo, Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• Mazda3 2.0: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the 155-hp 2.0-liter engine, but it is the most basic way into the lineup.
• Mazda3 2.5 S: This is the best-value starting point if you want the broader 2.5 S lineup, more power than the 2.0, and access to the trims that add the most useful equipment.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Select: This is the first trim with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, so it is a smart step up if safety tech matters to you.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Preferred: This trim builds on the 2.5 S formula with a more upscale feel, making it a good fit if you want comfort without jumping to Turbo pricing.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition: This trim adds distinctive styling touches and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, so it suits you if appearance and audio matter.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the manual-transmission hatchback, since it is the only one that offers a six-speed manual.
• Mazda3 2.5 Turbo: This is the choice if you want the turbocharged engine, standard AWD, and the strongest performance in the lineup.
• Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus: This is the top trim, adding Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system for the most complete safety and convenience package.

The safety package is especially strong, and the 2.5 S Select trim is the key point where blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert become standard.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 674 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.6% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $20,709 sits slightly below last year's $21,091.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The current trend suggests the market has cooled a bit, so resale value may depend more on condition, trim, and equipment than on broad demand alone. Strong owner satisfaction should still help support interest when you eventually sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and the IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher. Turbo models add adaptive front headlights, while the top Turbo Premium Plus adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The safety package is a major strength, and the only notable trim-level gap is that blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the lower trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a Carbon Edition, a standard wiper de-icer on Turbo models, and a new paint color.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,125, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,709 average.
• It emphasizes boosted power and a more mature, upscale character.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,053, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,709 average.
• It adds a more practical hatchback feel with extra cargo versatility.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and style, the 2022 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better price-first alternative, while the 2023 makes sense if you want to spend more for added practicality.
