How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,087 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, excellent safety features, comfortable interior, and powerful performance, especially with the turbo option. That lines up well with the CX-5’s premium-leaning positioning in the overview, where style and driving enjoyment are central to its appeal. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and limited cargo space, plus technology that can feel unintuitive. Even so, the market still shows 34.5% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as dependable and trouble-free, and they also highlight its smooth ride and comfortable, confidence-inspiring ownership experience. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the CX-5’s solid engineering, quieter ride, and improved structural rigidity. Mazda also includes a complimentary three-year trial of connected services, which adds some ownership value early on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical reputation and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, cargo area, and infotainment controls, since the CX-5’s practical compromises and tech quirks are part of the ownership experience. It also makes sense to compare trims closely, because some of the most useful comfort and safety upgrades are reserved for higher versions.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the CX-5 2.5 S base trim, and the higher trims add meaningful equipment such as premium interior touches, upgraded wheels, and more upscale exterior details. The Signature trim stands out with premium Nappa leather upholstery, real wood trim, and polished metallic accents, while the base trim is the one most likely to leave you without the richer materials and luxury feel.
• Powertrain: The CX-5 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, while the 2.5 Turbo adds much stronger output and is the choice if you want quicker acceleration. Mazda also revised the six-speed automatic for more responsive performance, and the turbo version trades efficiency for speed.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, and the Signature gets a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display, and it is not touch-sensing. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with text-messaging support, E911 automatic emergency notification, and Mazda Connected Services. Starting with the 2.5 S Premium trim, you also get a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the 2.5 Turbo returns 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, base, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point for the 2.5 S lineup, and it makes sense if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price. You still get the standard safety suite and all-wheel drive, but you give up the richer materials and convenience upgrades that make the higher trims feel more premium.
• Select: This is the first step up if you want a better-balanced daily driver without jumping too far in price. It should appeal to shoppers who want more comfort and equipment than the base trim while staying focused on value.
• Preferred: This trim is a smart middle ground if you want a more upscale feel without stretching into the pricier luxury-leaning versions. It is a good fit if you care about comfort and want the CX-5 to feel more polished in everyday use.
• Carbon Edition: This is the style-forward choice for buyers who want a more distinctive look. It suits you if exterior appearance matters and you want the CX-5 to feel a little more special without moving all the way to the top.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades, including the Bose audio system and SiriusXM. It is the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of features and price.
• Premium Plus: Choose this if you want a more fully equipped CX-5 and are willing to pay for it. It builds on the Premium trim with a more upscale overall experience and is a strong pick if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while.
• base: The 2.5 Turbo base trim is for buyers who want the stronger engine and are willing to pay for it. It mixes equipment from higher 2.5 S trims, so it makes sense if performance matters more than maximizing value.
• Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most luxurious CX-5 experience. It adds the richest interior materials and the most advanced safety and convenience features, making it the right pick if you want the most premium version available.

The standard i-Activsense safety package is comprehensive, while the Signature trim adds the most advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,087 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,127, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $23,445 sits slightly below last year's $24,746.

That price movement suggests the CX-5 has softened enough to help buyers now, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays closer to the top of the range. The model’s strong reputation for safety and owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, and the Signature trim gets a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist. That means the base setup is already strong, but the most advanced features are reserved for the top trim.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s updates make it feel more premium while preserving the CX-5’s fun-to-drive character.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,799, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,445 average.
• It offers strong value with updated tech and a more affordable entry point.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,420, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,445 average.
• It adds little beyond a new paint option and feels closer to the end of the line.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the CX-5’s premium feel, strong safety, and current-market pricing. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newest example, the 2023 is fine, but it does not add much for the extra cost.
