Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That lines up with the Velar’s core appeal: it is the sleekest-looking and nimblest SUV in the Range Rover lineup, with premium interior materials and a comfortable ride. It is aimed at you if you want a luxury SUV that feels distinctive and stylish rather than purely practical.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The base engine is underwhelming, visibility is poor, and the Velar is not the most powerful, capable, or lavish Range Rover.

Good and great deals account for 40.4% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The Velar’s appeal is more about style and atmosphere than durability, and the overview makes that tension clear. It also notes that reliability is not what draws people to a Range Rover, which is a useful reminder if you are shopping used.

On the mechanical side, the base four-cylinder is described as average in response, while the six-cylinder mild-hybrid setup is presented as the better choice for power and efficiency. The performance notes also say the mild-hybrid system helps reduce fuel consumption by letting accessories draw from a separate lithium-ion battery, while the electric supercharger and motor-generator support stronger performance.

For used ownership, that means you should expect a luxury SUV with strong character but potentially higher long-term risk than a simpler mainstream alternative.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, visibility-related concerns, and overall condition, since the Velar’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained. Pay close attention to whether the equipment you want is actually present, because advanced safety features are not standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Velar S already brings strong visual appeal, high-quality materials, and a polished cabin, but the content makes clear that upper trims add extra leather, softer headliners, and richer two-tone colors and textures. If you want the best value, the base trim is the one to compare first, while higher trims make sense if you care most about a more upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 247 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance is offered in 340 hp and 395 hp versions. The six-cylinder is the stronger choice if you want the Velar to feel more premium and responsive.
• Safety package: Standard driver aids include forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor. The 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist are optional, so check carefully if you want those features.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses a simplified layout, and the cabin includes a reconfigurable instrument panel, voice assistant support, a 360-degree camera system, and an off-road mode display. Standard equipment also includes a 12-speaker Meridian stereo, SiriusXM satellite radio, LED headlights, automatic high beams, and a proximity key.
• Fuel efficiency: The base six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The six-cylinder with the electric supercharger is rated at 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while four-cylinder models are rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 1 trim level: Velar S.

Here's the short version:

The Velar S: This is the trim to focus on if you want the Velar’s core strengths without stretching into pricier versions. It already delivers the stylish design, premium materials, and comfortable ride that define the model, and the content suggests the six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain is the better upgrade if you want stronger performance and a more premium feel.

The standard safety package includes forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor, while 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This looks like a buyer-friendly market for the 2022 Velar, especially if you are comparing multiple listings and want room to negotiate.

• Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 463 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,945, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $31,945 sits slightly below last year's $37,356.

That price drop suggests the Velar has become more approachable for used buyers, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong shape, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model’s value is tied closely to market perception of style and desirability. A well-optioned, clean example should hold up better than a neglected one, but the recent decline shows you should not expect a strong appreciation story.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

The Velar scored well in the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) when it launched.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driving assists include forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor. The 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to shop carefully if those systems matter to you.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you are especially price-sensitive, you can use the softened pricing and broad inventory to shop carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-equipped example rather than rushing into the first attractive listing.
