Is the 2022 Kia Sportage a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4/5 model with an expert score of 7.7/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10. Owners consistently point to the Sportage’s features, value, comfortable interior, and stronger performance than earlier versions, while the overview also frames it as spacious, stylish, and well equipped for everyday use. The main trade-offs are limited rear legroom and modest acceleration, and the expert review also calls out outdated technology. With its compact-SUV packaging and broad appeal, it fits you best if you want a practical crossover with a polished feel rather than the newest cabin tech. Good and great deals account for 35.9% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

User feedback highlights features, value, performance upgrades, and a comfortable interior, while also describing the Sportage as dependable enough to satisfy many owners over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the SUV as competent and easy to live with, with straightforward controls and a generally solid driving character. Kia’s warranty coverage also supports the ownership picture. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been worn down by age or neglected condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior condition, electronics, and signs of uneven wear. Pay close attention to rear-seat space, feature content, and whether the vehicle matches the equipment level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base trim, while the LX Value Edition Package adds features from higher trims and dark gray 18-inch wheels; the EX gains a standard panoramic sunroof, and the SX Turbo brings the most upscale feel with 19-inch wheels, metal pedal covers, and a premium audio system.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, while the SX Turbo upgrades to 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque; both use a six-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Every trim includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver monitoring system; blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires the LX Value Edition Package or any trim above the base LX.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto; most trims add UVO Link connected services and satellite radio, while the SX Turbo adds wireless smartphone charging and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the provided data.

Which 2022 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sportage is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Nightfall Edition, EX, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but you should only choose it if you’re comfortable giving up the blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic warning that come with the LX Value Edition Package or higher trims.
• Nightfall Edition: This is the style-focused middle ground, and it makes sense if you want a more distinctive look without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a standard panoramic sunroof and sits in the sweet spot between equipment and price.
• SX Turbo: This is the one to buy if you want the strongest performance, the most upscale cabin touches, and the premium audio setup.

For safety equipment, the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on the base LX.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new Nightfall Edition, a Value Edition Package, and a standard panoramic sunroof on the EX.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,892, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,305 average.
• It offers a stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and a great warranty.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $23,178, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,305 average.
• It brings a more modern, spacious, and tech-forward redesign.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and current-market availability, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer redesign and can pay more.
