How much does the 2022 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 12.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,299 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Kia Sorento earns a 4.64/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its modern design, spacious interior, and family-friendly features. The review summary also points to strong performance and fuel economy as recurring positives.

The trade-offs are familiar: the base engine is underwhelming, the third row is cramped, and the voice recognition system is a weak spot.

Given its three-row family-SUV mission, the Sorento makes the most sense if you want style, versatility, and a strong feature set rather than maximum third-row space.

The market also looks healthy, with 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with buyers highlighting the Sorento as a vehicle they feel good about living with over time.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by emphasizing the Sorento’s solid construction, quality feel, and generous warranty. Those are the kinds of traits that usually matter most when you’re planning to keep a used SUV for the long haul.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about choosing the right trim and condition, since the base setup is less satisfying than the better-equipped versions.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, feature operation, and whether the trim level matches what you want to live with every day.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the only trim that keeps the smaller 8-inch infotainment system, while other trims get the larger 10.25-inch setup. The X-Line treatment adds a more rugged look and standard AWD, and the SX Prestige brings the most upscale cabin touches.
• Powertrain: The standard 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder is described as underwhelming, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter is the stronger choice. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are also part of the lineup if efficiency matters more to you.
• Safety package: Kia Drive Wise is standard, but its contents vary by trim. Features include rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and a Blind View Monitor that is exclusive to SX Prestige X-Line.
• Infotainment: Most trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The base LX keeps the 8-inch system and is the only one with wireless smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged X-Line test vehicle was rated at 24 mpg combined by the EPA, though real-world testing came in lower. The hybrid is rated between 35 mpg and 37 mpg combined, and the plug-in hybrid can travel 32 miles on electricity before operating as a hybrid and returning 34 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Sorento, but it also keeps the smaller 8-inch infotainment system and the base 191-horsepower engine. It makes sense only if your priority is getting the lowest entry price.
• S: This trim is the first step up from the base model and is a better fit if you want a more complete everyday Sorento without jumping too far in price. It also can be paired with the X-Line package, which adds a more rugged look and standard AWD.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the stronger turbocharged 2.5-liter engine and adds more desirable equipment. If you want the Sorento to feel genuinely satisfying to drive, this is the trim to target.
• SX Prestige: This is the most upscale choice, with the most comfort and convenience content, including the more comfortable driver’s seat and heated second-row captain’s chairs. It suits you best if you want the Sorento to feel as premium as possible.

Kia Drive Wise is standard across the lineup, but the contents vary by trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,299 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $23,231 sits slightly below last year's $26,584.

That decline suggests the Sorento has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less room for appreciation, so condition and trim choice matter more for protecting value.

The good news is that the Sorento still has broad appeal thanks to its style, family-friendly layout, and strong feature content. Those qualities can help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2022 Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA. In NHTSA testing, it earns four-star ratings for frontal impact and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in all other tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia Drive Wise is standard, though the exact contents vary by trim. The system includes rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and a Blind View Monitor that is exclusive to SX Prestige X-Line.

One caveat is that the headlights on all but the SX and SX Prestige trims receive the lower IIHS result, while those top trims get the highest rating for their full LED headlights.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds meaningful updates, including a standard 10.25-inch infotainment system on most trims and expanded X-Line availability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,232, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,231 average.
• It offers a redesigned three-row layout with strong all-around appeal and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more updated version, the 2022 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2022 updates, the 2021 is the value-oriented alternative.
