Is the 2022 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Kia Carnival earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, innovative technology, and comfort, and they also like the unique features that help it stand out in its class. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want family utility with a more upscale feel and a less conventional look.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and a transmission that can be irritating in Smart mode. Even so, the Carnival’s value proposition is strong for shoppers who want a roomy people mover with a distinctive personality.

With 37.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Kia Carnival reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped, which usually supports confidence in day-to-day use. The expert evaluation also describes the V6 as smooth and effortless, and the automatic transmission as unobtrusive, both of which reinforce a sense of dependable operation.

Kia’s outstanding warranty and roadside assistance coverage add another layer of reassurance for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-kept example that has been maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a close inspection of the interior, electronics, and sliding-door operation, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and convenience features. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and how well the vehicle’s technology works, especially if you’re considering a higher trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX trim has the standard grille, 17-inch aluminum wheels, cloth seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while EX adds 19-inch wheels, simulated open-pore wood trim, and simulated leather. SX brings a mirrored grid-pattern grille and black wheels, and SX Prestige upgrades the cabin with real leather and VIP Lounge Seats.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. There is no all-wheel drive or electrified powertrain option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, lane-departure, -keeping, and -centering assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and Safe Exit Assist. EX adds front parking sensors, cyclist detection, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
• Infotainment: LX gets an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. EX upgrades to a 12.3-inch widescreen system, but CarPlay and Android Auto become wired; it also adds navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and more speakers. SX adds rear entertainment, and SX Prestige gets a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display plus a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should get 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.7 mpg.

Which 2022 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Carnival is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Carnival’s core appeal: the distinctive styling, the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full suite of standard driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra cabin polish and larger display.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system, navigation, wireless charging, front parking sensors, cyclist detection, and Highway Driving Assist. It also brings more upscale interior materials and more convenience features, though CarPlay and Android Auto switch to wired.
• SX: This trim is the one to choose if rear-seat entertainment matters, since it adds the dual-screen rear entertainment system, streaming-capable apps, HDMI connections, and rear-seat voice control. It also gets the surround-view camera system, which is a standout safety and parking upgrade.
• SX Prestige: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with real leather, VIP Lounge Seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and the 12-speaker Bose audio system. It also gets the Blind View Monitor, making it the most feature-rich version.

The EX is the sweet spot for most used buyers, while the SX Prestige is the pick if you want the most upscale cabin and the most advanced tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 657 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,880, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $23,880 sits slightly below last year's $27,281.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

Strong demand for roomy, well-equipped family vehicles can also help support resale value, especially when the vehicle has a good reputation with owners. A well-kept Carnival with desirable equipment should remain appealing to shoppers who want space and technology without the usual minivan image.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Carnival safe?

The 2022 Kia Carnival earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Its standard driver-assistance suite is extensive, with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, lane-departure, -keeping, and -centering assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and Safe Exit Assist. EX trim adds front parking sensors, cyclist detection, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.

One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist can feel overly assertive in use, with steering assist that may be too obvious for some drivers. If you’re shopping used, it’s worth testing the system yourself to see whether you like its behavior.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The all-new redesign brings crossover-like styling and strong value.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,239, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,880 average.
• It keeps the stylish MPV look while reinforcing the minivan-versus-SUV identity.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because prices are lower and the model already offers the core space-and-tech formula. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer example, the 2023 is the secondary path for shoppers who want to compare nearby-year pricing before deciding.
